Hi all you knowledgeable folks

We are in mid planning stages of having another litter and are stacking the news papers in preparation.
Does anybody have any cunning tricks on how to stop the news print from leaching out the news paper onto the lino floor. Last time we could mirror read the text imprint of the newspaper off the floor!
Putting polythene sheet between the paper and the lino is a NO NO ... twas a bit of a death trap for non skiers!
We found the Financial Times was the best at retaining its print on the paper and not the floor but I can't say I am an avid reader or that rag and couldn't get enough copies to do the bottom layer!
We had to keep scrubbing the floor every few hours otherwise the black trail of print was through the utility room where the Whelping box is, through the Kitchen (same pale lino) into the hall... light timber plank flooring great fun...

No wise cracks about changing the lino to a news print pattern please!

The first time I had a litter I put a big cardboard box and opened it up and put that down and newspaper on top. I even had a big garbage bag under the cardboard. Worked like a charm since they were on my living room carpet and no mess at all on my carpet. :)

Then we made a big cage that had lino floor for easy washing for the next time we planned to have a litter, this was much easier. :)

Hi, I have one of those books that is full of hints and tips, you know the ones that tell you how to remove alsorts of stains and things, well in there it says to stop print from papers the best thing to do is iron lightly over each page, sounds a bit time consuming but if it works maybe it is worth it. I dont get time to iron my clothes let alone the news papers :D Sarah

I think I heard that Prince Charles gets his Valet to do that for him every morning before he handling his papers....
May be I should hire a butler before the pups are due...
we'll probably need a few dozen paper ironed....

How about buying the cheapest possible lino offcut, taping it on top of your 'proper' stuff and either throwing it when pups are gone or cleaning/storing it for the next litter?

That is what I was going to suggest, as it is what a freind does, as her kitchen is too small to rear pups, and she has a large piece of lino rolled out and puppy pen on top in living room.

How about buying a cheap rubber car mat. Black and then it would not matter if print come off on it.
You can pick up some mats real cheap off markets for a couple of quid. Or some of that clear matting that is for walk ways from carpet shops. Just some ideas.
