Anyone know of any Eye Testing Sessions in the Kent area.

I have looked in my copy of Dogs today but there aren't any listed in this area.

Cheers

Hi Sweep, the Southern branch of the URC have an eye testing session near Hurst Green in April. The vets in Heathfield (E.Sussex) also do eye testing but you need to book well in advance. My girls are booked in for the end of this month and I booked that early Feb.

Who is the examiner, hope you don't mind me asking.
We have had to travel to Heathfield Vets for Eye tests before but I can't remember the name of the Vet Surgery, even if I can't get in this time they may be able to tell me of their next session.

Thanx so much

Just wish more clubs in Scotland would organise eye testing sessions.
- By John [gb] Date 15.03.03 19:37 UTC
You are in a bad position where you live. You are caught between M G Davidson in Edinbourgh at 52 miles or A E Wall in Aberdeen at 74 miles. There are 2 in Glasgow but I figure these would be further for you to get to.

Best Wishes, John

When I first started doing eye testing sessions (over twenty years ago), I was in a similar situation, so I organised my own session!
Try that if all else fails, you might be surprised by the response you get.

Hi, I don't know whereabouts you are in Kent, but my sister goes to a vet in Harold Wood in Essex to get her dogs eyes tested. It is just across the river from Kent and right by the M25 so could be a better option if you are in the north part of Kent. Also, I don't think you have to wait long for an appointment. The Vet is called Lawton - if you want more details, let me know.

A mine of information aren't you my dear chap?

I have been to Malcolm Davidson's practice in Edinburgh but I prefer testing sessions as it works out cheaper especially when you have more than 1 to test! The Tibetan Spaniel Club of Scotland is having testing if anyone is interested, curently over £17 a dog but it may get cheaper with more.

Is it the 'norm' now to pay for eye testing in advance?

Sweep x
- By John [gb] Date 18.03.03 19:29 UTC
I have never heard it Sweep but as I have said, I'm a co-organiser so I would not charge myself in advance anyway and of course I am at liberty to set my own rules. The addresses I have given are only in a few cases the ophthalmologist own practise. They normally cover quite a large area and if the ophthalmologist is making a special journey just check a few dogs then maybe this is his way of insuring that he does not have a wasted journey.

Just a thought, John

In the past we have received the relevant form to fill in in advance so all the documentation can be sorted, also enclosing the payment, but in the past the cheque doesn't get cashed until the eye test has taken place - I enquired this time as to the fact that they 'hold' the cheque until the eye test and was told that the cheque would be paid in staight away - therefore payment made in advance of the eye test. Perhaps it's because peoples cheques have 'bounced' in the past, or as your said John people letting the Session done by not turning up!

They have increased in price to haven't they?

The fee that you have to pay also has to cover "Surgery costs" A vet's consulting room costs quite a bit these days!!! We had to put our fees up last time but our overheads are just an evenings hire of a village hall and a few phone calls and some stamps so we can afford to test quite a bit cheaper than those held in vets surgeries. As long as we cover our expences and on a good night the price of a fish and chip supper we are happy.

Sounds like a goood evening! We have been quoted £32.20, this is at a Vet Surgery, so I assume that is why perhaps it is so expensive, I believe the one we went to last year was £16 - not at a Vet Surgery. So as you say it depends on overheads etc.
