Ok my sister lives next door to a chap who has a 2 year old complete terrier cross... his name is patch and he is such a lovely dog ....But his owner is less than concerned about this dog and it realy bothers me .
When he first got him patch got very sick very quick and he was found to have Pavo(sp?) virus, the vets treated him and he pulled through ...and patch's owner then had his injections done, but that is were his vetnary treatment started and ended unfortunatly. He has never been wormed, de-fleaed or has he had his booster ect ect.
This is partly because his owner cant afford the treatment and partly for lack of care.
My sister looks after Patch for most of the day whilst his owner is out and she has struck a real bond with him and if i had my way she would now be the owner ...but having said that she too cant afford vet treatment .... he also has many obidience problems with wich i have tried to help but i live 50+ miles away so my efforts arnt what i would hope ... I have tried over the phone instructions and my sister has tried to follow but its not the same :(
Now the problem i am asking about now ...is in my view a very serious problem and i fear that this dog could die if not treated ...but vet care seems out of the question first off although i am going to look into the owners local vets to see if they can help him pay for the bill so he can be treated but for now ...........
His problem is that (this is how my sister describes it i have not seen him myself) his penis is going green and he has green discharge coming from his penis also :( the poor thing ...also my sister notices that he smells quite bad too ...like poo ???
Is there anyone that could tell me what this could be and if there is any way to treat it in a first aid way until i can get this dog some vet care sorted out (if i have to pay for it myself then i will).
thankyou for taking the time out to help x x x x x x x
Ps i am considering reporting him to the appropriate people also .... but in the mean time can you help :)

A greenish discharge from the penis is usually normal if the dog is entire. However, it is always worth getting him checked out. With regards to the smell it could be that his anal glands need attention. Has your sister suggested to the owner to hand the dog over to her especially in view of the fact that she cares for him most of the time? Is their a local PDSA/Blue Cross or RSPCA vet centre near her that may be able to help?
Bec

If the owner is on benefits then the RSPCA vets
should be able to help (if their publicity is true), or try the PDSA or the Blue Cross. These bodies were all set up for treating animals whose owners were hard up.
Hope this helps. :)

wonderfull sugestions ...only trouble is ...the owner is one of those hard nuts you wouldnt want to cross and he dont take any notice of my sisters sugestions :( ...my sister baths him and she says his glands are clean .... I phoned the vets near him just a moment ago and they too said that the discharge is normal ..but if his penis is green also then he could have an infection and they charge a whopping £21 just for consultaion ....i am shocked at that as my vets only charge £2.50 and they dont even charge that if the animal has to have medicen they just charge you for that .....as far as him not being able to afford it ..this is because he works and all of his money goes on boozing and games for play station ...he dont even pay his bills .
Its very sad as i wouldnt hesitate to report him if i knew that he wouldnt terrorise my sister as a result ( and i mean broken windows ...violence ect ect)
I also spoke to my sister again a moment ago and said she needed to consider reporting him and she went mad ...your over reacting ect ect >>><<< she seemed to foget how he beats this dog into doing as its told ...and i mean beat :( ... i said so if its an infection and he gets real poorly are you telling me you would rather see him die than report him ?? and he answer went unsaid... i was going to pay for the treatment myself but i cant afford thier prices as the nurse told me the infection treatment itself could go beyond £100 ...and i have plenty of animals to care for myself ..and i just cant pay that :( ...ohhhhhhhhh what a sad situation
any of you know if there is anything they can feed him (if it is an infection) to help it go away ? without having to pay for the vets over priced treatment? would bathing his penis in salt water help?
thanks x x x x

i have a friend on benefits who had her dog treated at the RSPCA centre - albeit it was some time ago now .
Could your sister pop up there with the dog without this brutes knowledge . Since you say she minds the dog etc she could administer any medication if need be
Has she asked him about taking over ownership of the dog .

I'm sorry and please don't take this wrong, but if the man is beating the poor dog to get him to do what he wants him to, why are you worried about a green penis. I would be more worried about getting the dog from him. I would call the RSPCA on the man and have the dog taken away from him. Tell them the situation and that you can't give your sisters name etc. for fear of violence against her home. This is why so many animals are killed or have behavoir problems. Please, get involved in trying to get the dog taken away from this terrible man!!!!! Shirl :D

I know what your saying I realy do ...but it is just not that simple ....and i truely wouldnt hesitate if i didnt think it would have reprocussions on my sister ..... I reported someone only the other day to the police and the dog warden because they were letting thier dog wander about on a busy road ...so i am not one to hesitate when it comes to helping an animal normaly ...but this isnt a normal situation and you have to trust me on that. I would dognapp the dog also if i thought he would never find out ! but it is just not a risk i want to take :(
I have been tossing this around in my head all day as to what i should do. As far as the violence goes he actualy works now so i dont think he is being violent towards patch now ..and beside my sister and i between us have trained him so that he does nothing to warrent a beating in his owners eyes (i.e pooing in the house, begging, barking ect) and also he is like i said around my sisters house most of the day so i know he isnt coming to any phsycal harm now. ohh boy i hope this thread dont get out of hand now as thats not what i wanted ...i genuinly would like some advice on how to treat his condition if there is one .
thanks x x x x

<<<She seemed to forget how he beats his dog into doing as its told and I mean beat>>>
These were your words, so does this mean from your initial post to this one he has stopped beating Patch? That was quick. Sorry, my post still stands. Get SOMEONE to get Patch taken away from the man. Sorry I have no advise for the problem poor Patch is having. Very sad for poor Patch. Shirl :-(

sorry it was supposed to say beat not beats plural ...my error
and i do also believe he should be taken away its just how and what will the consiquenses be...im not trying to make excuses for not reporting him please understand that.

Make an anonymous phone call to the RSPCA. That way the man will never know who made it.

Anything that is said to the RSPCA is totally confidential so get on the phone straight away or get someone else to do it.

If it were your sister....if I had my benefit documents (housing benefit/council tax/family credit/income support/jobseekers allowance etc), I'd take them and the dog to the nearest PDSA veterinary centre. I would say the dog was my responsibilty (and neglect to say I didn't own the dog..he is my responsibilty during the day). The PDSA will treat/examine the dog free of charge, they ask for a donation but this is optional. If I wasn't on benefits I'd find a friend who was..we all have one :)
I'd then tell this guy the dog was unwell during the day so I took it to the PDSA and they treated free of charge, making out I'd done him a favour saving his time and money etc. Hopefully rather than thinking I'm interferring he'd just think I was a being nice.
Just a suggestion. Rules are made to be broken.
Julie :)

I am with Shirl on this I would report him, doesn't matter about anything else, the poor dog cant defend itself.
Julies suggestion above is a good one aswell, either way this dog needs help and fast

the p.d.s.a will treat the dog. they only ask for a donation. and they dont stand over you....you are given an envelope to leave your donation in. they will also give the dog a thorough check whilst you are there.

Couldn't your sister say the dog ran away then you look after him a bit and try and find him a new home? Thats what I would do.
I know technically its theft - but technically its a potential cruelty case!

OK I went to visit my sister tonight and whilst i was there i took a look at patch and he look ok now my sister has given him another bath and she has cleaned up his private and he now look clean ..his willy aint green no more :) ...also whilst i was there i took some food enough for a couple of months and i wormed him myself tonight and also gave my sister enough to keep worming him for the rest of the year on Drontal ... and i also De fleaed him :) so i now think health wise he will be ok.
Also earlier today i phoned the RSPCA and reported him annon .... and i feel on tender hooks now until i now what happens. I dont want my sister to know i reported him either cause she said she wouldnt speak to me again if i did .....but i have and it is done now . The RSPCA said that they would send someone round to him to have an informal chat and to have a look at the situation and then they will decide and take it from there.
so my deed is done and i just hope nothing goes wrong now.
thanks for the advice x xx x
