Hi Everyone

I would love to show my little Blue Cocker Spaniel, he is 11 months the breeder has asked three times if they could have him back for show ' i said no of course'. I have become very interested in showing and because i have been told by three diffrent breeders that Toby has a great head and body it has given me the push to do something with him. I am finding very hard to find information on Ring Craft in the Nottingham area, and info on how to start with Toby. I would love a mentor who has done this before and would like to help me get the info needed. So Please help.

I would also loke to start grooming Toby myself but would like to speak to people out there who have showed before for info or names of books i would find helpful. Thanks

Only yesterday I was looking in the "Pet Owners Guide to the Cocker Spaniel" published by Ringpress Books, and there was quite a lot about how to groom a cocker for the ring (with photos to help!) I would say that book would be a must, anyway! :)

If you have a breeder who is keen to get the dog into the ring then it shows he looks promising. Ask them to show you how to trim him so he looks his best and to help you with showing too but explain that you want to do the handling of him.. Find a good ringcraft and do lots of practising at home too.

Frank Kane's book on the pet cocker is very good for giving you trimming tips. Jackie Marris Bray also has video which gives some useful pointers - but the best is to watch someone and for them to show you.

I agree with Pammy, get on to the breeder and ask them to show you. If theyre that keen to have him shown, then possibly they will help you just before a show to get him spot on. Contact the Kennel Club for a list of ringcrafts in your area. It doesnt cost.
Good luck with him!
