Am considering a CS after owning Labs and ESS in the past. Are there any breeders producing working lines that are pretty calm compared to the usual full on pocket rockets? I shall train and would be interested in gundog training in Yorkshire. My reservation is how intense a WCS may be. I understand they're bred to work, just wondering if they're all the same? Thanks to anyone who can offer any advice.
I hope you get answer to your question. I do not feel qualified to help you but have got a working type cocker cross( 90 percent working cocker/10 percent Sussex Spaniel) She is a darling, utterly affectionate and obedient around the house. I had always had Border Collies and Golden Retrievers and found them easy to train / biddable / good all round family pets. Mabel, my cocker cross is deffo more challenging. Her off-switch can be hard to find and out and about her re-call is not reliable. If she gets a scent, she's after it, and has occasionally returned with a dead bird, not killed by her I hasten to add. But she is still young and very obedient in the home and totally reliable around the grandchildren- affectionate and super friendly. I am okay with her variable recall because she is so nice in every other way. We have a large garden so she can chase balls and play so I keep her on a the lead ( not a retractable !)most of the time on walks.

Welcome!
Your best bet is to look at the parents.
In very general terms, a pedigree with a lot of 'red' (FTCH) make for very trainable trialling type dogs, but may not necessarily be suitable for a steady 'pet' home. The parents temperament will usually be a good indicator of the pups.
I have a litter of working, but not daft cockers in North Yorkshire, but not sure we are allowed to contact on here. On the Breeders secion, my page is Maplecrest.

Thanks for your response, that's helpful and makes sense. I am in Yorkshire so shall have a look at Maplecrest on the Breeders part of this site. Thanks again.
