Hi. Does anyone know if you can use dog treats when you're doing the Kennel club good citizen awards. Thansk

Just googled this.
For the Bronze level, the focus is on basic obedience and good manners in everyday situations, says the Kennel Club. While the test might involve exercises like recall or loose-leash walking, the emphasis is on the dog's ability to follow commands consistently and reliably without the use of treats as a reward, according to a Kennel Club guide.

I know in obedience some people would shove a little pate under their nails, not at higher levels obviously as it really wasn't needed.

Have to admit doing something similar.
Our trainer was very dismissive that one of our Bassets would achieve Gold & promised myself we'd prove her wrong. He past at first attempt, but for the retrieve did ferment a pair of my husbands socks in the fridge with cheese for some days before!!

If I'd done that with my Beagle he would probably have eaten them!!!

He was indifferent to retrieving, did return them & on giving him the 'release' combined with an icy glare luckily his better judgement prevailed!

Compared to something edible an icy glare would have meant nothing to Jal:evil:

There isn't a Retrieve in the KCGCD Gold Test. Some clubs devise their own format for testing, but a retrieve isn't required for any of the official KCGC tests.

No retrieve requirement in any of the GC tests.

No, but in our Gold test there was a section where you were watched engaging in play with your dog, & that involved returning the 'toy' if thrown.
