I have a bitch 5 days post mate, she has still been bleeding slightly from her season,( she's day 17)  this morning there was an amount of odd smelling blood, she is well in herself although a little sleepy, happy to eat and go for a walk, doesn't feel hot, I've had pyro diagnosed by a vet at our practise with another bitch and it turned out to be d/v, so as the only odd thing was the blood I'm holding back a little, what's your thoughts?

Whereas mine all went through to day 21, or thereabouts, with just a light discharge throuogh the third week, mated or not, we had one who started to produce a more blood coloured discharge after being mated.  As she was otherwise fit and well, I didn't go to it being a pyo, much as I thought perhaps she'd not taken  She had an uneventful pregnancy and gave me 9 of what were probably the best we'd ever had.  So good that we kept 3 and they all came back with the others to the UK.  One gained her UK Champ.

The odd smelling blood might worry me - is it worth taking her to see your vet?

Thanks for replying, good to hear the prolonged bleeding isn't unusual, I'll see how she is for the rest of the day, she's very perky at the moment, playing etc, so nothing else apart from the blood.

Mine too have generally had some bloody discharge to the end of their season, mated or not, but I've never noticed it smelling 'odd'.

Thanks for replying, she's fine in herself, doesn't seem to feel unwell, I'm keeping an eye on her.
