Hi all,
I have a 7mth black lab that is showing excellent signs of becoming a good gun dog, but as i dont really do any shooting i would like to put him through his paces in field trial competitions but know nothing about them! I take it they are point based as apposed to the standard showing values? Does anyone know how they are ran and how they work??
Many thanks
Mark

Very simply a Field Trial is run like a shoot but with the standard of the dog work judged. I really think that before competing in Field Trials you need a season in the field picking up on a shoot to give both you and your dog experience. At 7 months old you have plenty of time and by joining a gundog society you could enjoy a pleasant season of Gundog Working Tests through this summer. During the winter go and see a Field Trial or two and you will get an idea of just what is required.
Best wishes, John
