Hello. You are probably going to tell me not to knock it, but i'm wondering if anyone has had an incredibly calm golden retriever male at 8 months? All my goldens have been nutcases until almost 18 months old. Very lively and bouncy. Full of energy. However this boy, who is an absolutely beautiful boy with a wonderful nature, seems a little too calm for his age. He's been checked by the vet, and they say he appears to be healthy, but he has no get up and go. he eats and drinks well, and gives all the others (and me) loads of  kisses, and wags his tail so much that his whole body sways, but that's all for a minute, then he'll go and lay down. He rarely plays. He doesn't chew. He doesn't bark, and he doesn't race around like the other youngsters at his age. I can't help but worry. He's the first golden i've had that is this laid back and calm at 8 months old. I may be worrying for nothing, and may just be very lucky and have a really good boy, but I'm not used to this level of calmness at this age, and there is that fear that something is wrong. His weight is good and his coat is lovely. Please some-one tell me that they've had one like this, and he or she lived a long and healthy life.

He sounds like my Border Collie Paddy He will be 13 in March and I always say he was born 'ready made'. I feel he will be fine and you should feel ' blessed ' .As I write in the shed - house too noisy and distracting for me- he is lying at my feet but I know as soon as I stand up he will follow me quietly into the house.

I hope so. He's such a lovely boy. I've just never had one as calm as he is. As long as he will be okay, I will feel incredibly lucky x

What did the vets actually check?  Did they check his joints?
