Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Aggression during phantom

Hi all,

We have a 15 month WCS bitch - she had her first season throughout October (bleeding for around 30 days). When she stopped bleeding she immediately became aggressive around her food bowl and her crate (growling and lunging towards people) - both a trainer and the vet have confirmed she is having a phantom pregnancy. Aside from the aggression she does have mammary gland enlargement but no obvious milk production and the rest of the time she is her lovely cuddly self (which makes the aggressive outbursts even more shocking).

In terms of her food, we are just leaving her alone in the room while she eats to avoid any unnecessary stress. The crate is where it is becoming a problem - when I put her to bed and go to close the door she is lunging out at me and attempting to bite.

Does anyone have any experience of this and a. is it normal and b. any tips on reducing aggression during a phantom?

I have her on pulsatilla 15c and evening primrose oil once a day.

Any advice welcome!!!

p.s. we will be getting her spayed when all symptoms subside!
