Hi
My husband and I are looking for a male husky/malamute to join our pack of seven humans and one romanian rescue dog.
We like this breed because of its protective nature towards the pack, its intelligence and its activeness.
However, finding a reputable breeder is proving to be harder than I thought it would be. My father worked as an RSPCA inspector before he retired so I am only too aware of the dangers of unlicensed breeders.
Champdogs seems to be a safe place for people like me who want the reassurance of getting a puppy from a reputable breeder.
As well as seeing the puppy with its litter, mother and, if possible, father, what other questions do you think I should ask? Medical history? Vaccination records?
Any feed back will be greatly appreciated,
Rowena

If u go to the breeder section and look at the index on the left there is an article which will help called puppy buyers guide
Is it a cross between the two breeds that you are looking for?
I hadn't considered a cross between the two. I like malamutes for its nature, but my husband likes the husky because they look more wolf like. Both are very similar in temperament and exercise requirements so we really don't mind which.
Having just discussed a cross between a husky and a malamute with my husband, we would definitely be open to viewing a litter.

It looked like it was a cross when you said “this breed”.
Definitely stick with one or the other.
Have a look at the KC website to see what health tests are required and ensure that the parents any litters you are looking at are fully tested. Contact the breed clubs for information and advice. Try to attend a breed club show or championship show to meet with owners, breeders and stud dog owners. Definitely see pups with mum, don’t worry about not seeing dad (good breeders will travel hundreds or thousands of miles to the best stud for their girl).
Many of us don’t vaccinate prior to pups leaving, this wouldn’t be a red flag for me, you would however expect your pup to have been wormed.

Don't forget that if u go for a cross ot won't be kc registered and probably more difficult to find one wjere health tests are done for both breeds not vet checks and that the pare take and health is known .crosses are more likley to be produced by back yard breeders
Would u consider a rescue ? Atm there are alot of huskys In particular in rescue as people bought in haste and can't meet their needs .especially after the pandemic amd retuning to work .a bored dog is often destructive

I just did a quick search on Pets4 (I know, but still) and found a male looking for a good home.
https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/l-kyxcy4k-koba-radstock/?pmg_source=allThere are others but you'd have to do your homework re the breeders (!). I note this boy isn't KC registered and has been castrated. He has no microchip. I didn't look any further re what's available in Sib.Huskys and I'm not saying this would be the dog for you.
