Hi
My dog has had several courses of antibiotics for various ailments and I am concerned about his gut health.
My vet has recommended protexin for him and I would just like to read about your experience with probiotics, thanks x

You could always try adding a spoonful or two of natural yoghurt to his meals, works very well.

Agree its cheap and easy. Make sure it's a live one

I’ve tried the live yogurt and he point blanks refuse to have it . But I could try and spread some into a slice of him to trick him! Lol

I have usually used natural (unflavoured) yogurt and even better if you can source goats yog.   But note, most complete food contains a probiotic.   I just add some to their normal food.

Raw Wet Geen Tripe is a good natural probiotic. It offers beneficial bacteria and enzymes
Unfortunately some dogs do not like it and it stinks. (do not cook it)

I use Petastical probiotics it has a full range, some dont have very many strains. Its in powder form any my very fussy dog is fine having it mixed in with a bit of minced beef or something. He too wont eat yoghurt. I dont give it for any specific problem I just know my gut feels better for having probiotics so hoping its the same for him.

Def. do not cook it.   The breeder of my second hound used to source this from a local abattoir but she had to keep it in the coal shed under the house, so bad did it smell.

Years ago when I knew no better and preinternet I bought some and yes u guessed it I cooked it

Omg never again .dog loved it although it was probably of no use cooked . I now know better and buy whole tripe and feed raw . The dogs love it but it's an occasional buy as I can't stand the smell once its defrosted
Cays armt so keen

Should that last line say cats aren't so keen?
My dogs loved tripe but cats all walked off shaking their hind legs delicately:eek:
