Hi,
I have a 14 yr old entire male. Very fit & healthy, still likes to walk and run, eating drinking all ok. No changes in his behaviour or health.
In the last week he has started pooing in the house overnight. He is walked morning, lunchtime and most afternoons/evenings. When not walked, he has regular access to the garden and usually does a poo before bedtime.
So, I'm not sure why this has started. Even on the nights he's had a poo before bed, he has still done it in the house overnight.
Any ideas as to what might be going on?
I'm going to try giving him his dinner an hour earlier and see if that makes any difference, it's usually at 4pm.
Thanks!

try a nice vigorous game of fetch in the garden mid evening- that should shake loose any poops due
At that age, it's probably a sign of canine dementia. There isn't much to be done about that sadly - there are some supplements which can help - but 14yo is a good age.
Could something have changed internally? I had a dog who started weeing in the house at night. Vet found he had developed spondylosis which was impinging on the “gotta pee!” nerve.
Thanks all. Not sure what was up there.
For the last couple of days I've given him his dinner an hour earlier, then he's been taken out about an hour after that (which is the usual time). The house has been clean the last 2 nights, so hopefully that has sorted it, or he had a bug or something that upset him and he couldn't hold it in.
As for canine dementia, I don't think it's that. We had a cat who had that and you could clearly tell there was something not right, she was away with the fairies. My boy is still very bright and chipper, nothing gets past him!
We will continue with the altered routine and see how we get on.
