I've been trying to find an American staffy in the UK, anyone know of any?

Legally you can't own one over here as they fall under the category of Pitbull type which is a banned breed/type.
You can't import them in legally.

Why not get a Staffy instead or an American Bulldog if you want something larger?

Hi Thanks for the reply, Im not sure your right there I thought they were legal, to be honest I dont like the look of the American Bulldog.

Oh well I might stick with my sons idea, hes 8 and wants an Australian cattle dog

Look it up the American Staff is deemed Pitbull Type, you won't be able to import one legally into the country and if anyone is breeding them here then they won't come from a savoury source. No health tests done, no consideration for the correct temperament as per say the American Kennel Club has set out, no consideration for conformation either. It will be some shonky person having a litter for money/status.

Until the law changes on the dangerous dogs act and removes set breeds as banned I would opt for a decent reputable breeder of a non banned breed. The ACD is very different to the AS but they are a very hardy breed.  Good luck

Amstaffs are definitely classed as pitbull type and such are illegal, it's a poorly enforced law but best not running the risk as having your dog seized under the DDA can be very costly.

I would suggest you do more research, and maybe write down (here if you like) what you want from a dog as cattle dogs and bull breeds are very different in terms of energy levels and trainability

No disrespect to youri son but children and many adults tend to by what they like the look of of a programme on TV

Would the acd fit your lifestyle ? Can u mange their inheritant traits ?
Have a look at other breeds and as suggested make a list of what you want in a dog and what you  can give a dog

Whatever breed you decide on check it's background and that all health tests have been done.not vet checks but health test on parents and.sometimes on the pup.
Doesn't matter that it's a pet you still want a healthy pup.
Also I would be prepared to wait for.the right litter and too travel  as I wouldn't think there are many and bred per year
Personnaly I would steer clear of anything that could be caught up in the dda . A well.bred staff would be a good alternative to the American staf. Legal and can be loving family dogs with good kind training and you won't get problems with the law

A well bred ACD is a lot of dog, I would definitely make sure you meet breeders before going down that route to make sure it’s really what you want.

If you like Amstaffs have a look at the American Bully (different to American bulldog). The larger varieties some are baslicly very simmaler to the amstaff. Although I'd amagin anything over a pocket variety would also be at risk of being classes as type, but that hasn't seemed to stopped them becoming quite popular now.

Are they being bred responsibly ? The ones I see round here often have ears docked which gives me the impression that they are byb .

Seeing that ear cropping has been illegal in the UK for over 100 years, any dogs that have suffered this torturous mutilation will never be from a responsible breeder.

Maybe u misunderstood me wjat I was saying was do people breed these dogs responsibility at all
My limited experience is they don't therefore its not a breed I would want to encourage. 
Given jo suggested. And Jo would only suggest something that was well I was curious to know how easy it is   to get a responsibly bred dog of that breed .
Sadly round here I seem to be seeing more amd more with docked ears . It saddens me .

It does seem there are a lot of dodgy breeders yes sadly.  I'd imagine there will be some good ones about just like with any popular trendy breed though.
I quite like the pockets but have only glanced at breeders here or abroad as I'd not be in a position to have one for a long time.

They should be imported if cropped but it seems the dodgyest are cropping uk bred puppies either themselves or having dodgy vets crop them them using fake passports with them. Think it was the BBC that did a program about it.
