Just reflecting on the sad passing of The Queen, the succession of King Charles 3rd and the changes that will happen...

We have had Victorian, Edwardian Georgian periods ... have we now moved into the Charlesian age?

It doesn't flow but what else could it be known as?

The carolean era apparently.  I noticed liz truss using it in her speech

Latin for Charles I think although it's more complicated than that if u read wiki

Yes, we enter the Carolean era but personally I prefer to remain with the House of Windsor.

I have been trying to find information about her 4 remaining dogs - 2 Corgis, a Dorgi and a Spaniel.  Who will provide them with homes - will their breeder(s) take them back.

And then there's her highly successful racehorses/stud, her fell ponies.  And her cattle!!   I'm sure she will have left instructions for all of them.

Who could have believed what's happened, all in one week.  I have sympathy for Liz Truss - seeing the Queen only 48 hours before she died.

I'm sure the RSPCA,who she was the patron of, will be on hand to assist the family. As a multi millionaire, I'm sure any of her remaining house & kennel dogs will be well provided for.

She bred more than Pem Corgis of course, a whole host of working gundogs under the name Sandringham, the Corgis were bred under Windsor.

I think she also bred other breeds apart from Corgis & gundogs

Like Furriefriends says, the Carolean era (the third one I assume). This due to Carolus being latin for Charles.

All the family are animal lovers and tbh there is enough of them to look after her animals without outside help .
I just can't imagine her animals being rehomed by a rescue

I am sure that has been considered by her and her family

When the queen mother died the queen took in her remaining dogs so I imagine one of her children will do the same for hers.  Even though she was very hands on with her dogs the staff still had a lot to do with them

I don't believe for a minute that she did not have this all arranged before hand

She took over her father's stud at Sandringham when he died straight away and his dogs as well

I read that one of the family members will be taking on the dogs, think its the Countess of Wessex.

Read that last night Andrew and Fergie were having the Corgi's.
No idea about the rest of the dogs. Didn't she have Labs still and a Cocker? The working dogs.
- By MamaBas [gb] Date 12.09.22 07:06 UTC
I too read that Andrew will be taking the 2 Corgis gifted to the Queen, she having accepted the puppies on the basis they'd go back to him if they outlived her.  And the third (Dorgi) would stay with them 'as they know each other'.   As for the Spaniel she had in her later years, perhaps that one will go back to the breeder.  As for her gundogs (in the Sandringham kennels), I'm sure they will be taken care of.  There are enough dog-lovers within the Royal Family.

None of the dogs will ever end up in rescue. They are very much a dog loving family and a huge family at that. The dogs all had staff too, I'm sure the game keeper will assist with the gundogs too.
One of our family Labs from when i was a child was from her kennels, he was a lovely boy

I’d be surprised if the cocker - FTCh Wolferton Drama - ended up in rescue.

So the Queen BRED and owned the Cocker Spaniel.  So much for being returned to her breeder!!

My post was very tongue in cheek

In a very much earlier, pagan, age the dog, especially such an outstanding dog (Horses, too!), would have gone to the grave with the Queen, to accompany her into the Afterlife.

Thank goodness we’re more civilized now.

It shows an aspect of the late Queen that most people were not aware of - her competitive spirit even into old age, and her sporting interests. I think most people were aware of her horse-racing and -breeding interest, but fewer of her interest in Gundogs. Looking at the pedigree of Wolferton Drama, that is a very highly-bred competitive animal.

Field Trial Champions way back in her pedigree, both dogs and bitches.

COI of 22.75% seems rather excessive. I thought working cockers would be a lot lower, there must be millions of them.
- By Merrypaws [gb] Date 13.09.22 03:52 UTC
I suppose it depends on the purpose for which the breeding was done, and presumably it was given due thought. I know the Queen was much involved with the breeding of her racehorses and Fell ponies.

Yes, there are very many working cockers, often produced by people who are only in it for the money, and living in very unsuitable pet homes until they are cast off to rescue when the owners find they are too much dog for their circumstances. It’s to be hoped that none of Her Late Majesty’s breeding ended up so.

This Cocker was owned by her gamesman and when he died she took on the dog as her own pet and I was reading and if to be believed was part of the Corgi group and lived inside with them rather than kennels.

So if the cocker currently lives with the handler, perhaps she will just stay there, that would be nice :-)

> COI of 22.75% seems rather excessive.

I think, but don't know obviously, that as HM was involved in breeding her livestock (racehorses, Fell ponies cattle and so on) it was, for her, more about breeding for the positives in their 'working' lives than anything else.  Yes, they all had to be 'fit for purpose' which would include conformation, but I see her breeding as more to do with 'fit for purpose', than anything to do with COI.   Livestock breeders know when they need an outcross to prevent their stock losing vigour, size and so on but would mainly breed for what they needed within their working lives.  Having lived on a cattle (breeding mainly) farm out in Canada for some years, I saw first hand what he needed within his stock.   It was interesting.

I can't help worrying about those Corgis and mixes and hope they will be collected by Andrew/the daughters, asap so they can settle into their new lives.
