Does anyone know if I will be able to register my puppies if the change of ownership papers have not been sorted with the KC? Is it allowed for the breeder (whom I purchased the Dam from) to register the puppies on my behalf? Has anyone else had problems trying to change registration of ownership with KC due to forgetting to send off the change of ownership form having purchased the puppy back in 2018?

As per KC rules, the breeder of a litter is the registered owner of the dam at the time of whelping. If the bitch wasn't transferred to your name before she had the pups then you cannot officially register the pups as bred by you. Her breeder can, but that brings with it all sorts of other problems. If the breeder doesn't need a license then an extra litter registered in their name could mean their own next litter can't be registered if they already have registered 2 litters in 12 months. It also doesn't look very good for somebody to sell pups with another person as the official breeder, and assuming you're in England then the pups can only be sold by the person who bred them, by law, and that would then not be the person down on paper as having bred them.
What kind of problems have you had transferring the bitch? As long as you have the registration number and the unique ownership code it should be quick. I recently rehomed a dog that had been returned to me as an adult and his transfer went through online in just a few days.

Thank you for engaging. My problem is that I did not return the change of ownership form after having purchased the puppy (stupid I know)! I have been told by KC that the breeder has to contact them in order for them to send her the form for me to then return to them. Neither she nor I have the unique owners code (I have the registration number on the five generation form) so cannot complete any of the online forms. Both she and I have tried phoning but the waiting time is so long; once I was waiting on the phone for over two hours before I spoke to someone, but again I was told only the breeder can organise the form needed. The breeder does not have the time to be on the phone for over two hours so I am stuck. Wanting to breed and sell through a reputable website but I can't. My lovely Bella has had all the necessary heath checks done too! Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Appreciate you pointing out the legalities.
Look forward to any suggestions as to a way forward.

Try 3 way conference call with you, the breeder and the kc, once you've gotten through add the breeder to the call so she can get the forms by speaking with them.

Do you not still have the form (Form 6) in the puppy pack of papers that you got with the puppy? If not then the breeder can simply ask the KC for a replacement to send to you - she should be able to do that online.

If you have her registration certificate all the details you need would be on the back including the ownership code.
If it's been signed by breeders all you need to do is send it in.

Yes if your breeder orders a new registration certificate from the KC website it will have transfer details on the back of it.

Hi thanks for your reply. No! I don't have the form. The breeder tells me she can't order a form online as she never keeps teh unique owners number for the puppies she sells only the microchip number. Any other thoughts welcome.

Thank you - I had thought of that I have contacted the breeder and asked if she would be willing to do this. I think this is the only way forward.... I await her reply.

Just checking you haven't bred her yet right?
If you have already bred her then it's too late now for this litter to be On your name. It needs to be sorted before you mait her. A friend had this problem with a bitch loan, owner was ment to change it but turned out they didn't u till well after the maitkng. Kc said too late.

It's easy to be wise after the event, but my view of all this is why wasn't it possible to get all the paperwork etc. in place before you mated her?

Sorry but that's garbage if she's kc registered and you know the kc name she'd be showing up in the breeders name along with all details so could get a duplicate registration easily.

Thank you - I will phone the right now and request a duplicate registration certificate. The breeder has not replied to my request for a conference call so..... this looks a way forward.

Do you not have the registration document when you bought her.
The breeder would have signed it, and you could either do transfer of ownership on-line using the code.printed on it, or send it off.
Is your problem that you posted it, and it has got lost?
If so contact the.KC with her registered name and date of birth, explain it was posted
They would then likely contact the breeder and/or send them a new certificate which they can sign and post to you, or let you have the transfer code, so you can do it on-line.
The latter is what I did.when papers came to breeder late, after I had my pup home, so to save time and postage.

this is very helpful thanks - I tried phoning yesterday but my landline ran out of battery whilst waiting for two hours to get through to the registration dept. I will write by snail post as you have suggested. Thank you

I'd try phoning, as emailing/writing doesn't get a timely response.

Are you certain your bitch is actually registered? You can easily check by going on to the KC website and looking up her dam (by registered name) and checking to see if the litter was registered. What is the bitch's KC name?

Hi everyone I'm looking for some advice please. In july 2022 we collected our new puppy from the breeder who advertises and who is a member of Champdogs. The litter was born in May. As we collected the pup, we were provided with a contract of sale. In that contract it states the Kennel Club registration was tbc. We were told that the pedigree would be registered and we would receive same in due course. We have not yet received either our dog's pedigree documentation or its unique KC registration number. I have made several attempts to date to request this from the breeder yet nothing so far has been provided. Yesterday i spoke with KC who advised me to make a 'final formal request via email' to the breeder. I have now done this but again have received no response. KC did also advise that i could ask Trading Standards to intervene as the contract clearly mentions registration etc. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and how this was resolved. I really do want to try and avoid a heavy handed approach such as Trading Standards if at all possible. Many thanks if you can offer any support and or guidance.
Best regards

Unfortunately sounds to me as if the breeder had no intention of registering the litter, otherwise surely they would’ve at least responded to you? I would also perhaps contact champdogs, as champdogs only allow kc registered litters advertised (I think). Especially if they’re still advertising on here as I’d imagine champdogs may want to know about it. Apart from that I don’t think there’s much else you can do that you haven’t done already. Have you any other way of contacting them, by phone or social media? On the off chance they’ve changed their contact details without informing you then social media is a good shout.
I’m not sure if there is still a backlog on registrations, as there was when I had my last litter in summer 2021, but anyhow it certainly wouldn’t have taken 6 months now I wouldn’t have thought especially as I know of litters who’ve been registered that were born autumn 2022.
As you have mum and dads details (kc names) can you look the dogs up and see if they have a litter down as being registered for July 2022 - then you can at least see if they ever did register a litter
Others may have better suggestions, but just for next time when the registrations were delayed for my litter back in 2021 I showed all the owners my kc account that had the litter registration pending on it - just ito help put their minds at rest and so that they could trust that I was registering them and they would get their registration certificate etc from me when I received them.
Could it be that they are registering an affix at the same time? This can take longer as it has happened to me in the past. I knew the breeders in my case so I wasn't concerned. The breeders should respond to you though

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply. The breeder it seems has been really very poorly but all is now getting sorted. Much appreciated thanks again
