Hello everyone, good evening. For sometime now I have been thinking about getting a dog. Lots of people are buying puppies and I think it’s lovely, however, I’m looking for dog that is around 3 ish years old, kind in nature and good with kids (I have a 10yo). Many years ago I’ve adopted abused cat and after wonderful 14 years she has crossed the rainbow bridge. House is empty and lifeless. We are missing the sound of the paws on the floor and daily cuddles.
I’m looking for female dog preferably but not essential. Breed: miniature bully, dachshund, shtzu… small dog :)
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I am afraid this is unlikely to be the place to look . Have u contacted the rescues ? There are so mamy dogs there and some may fit hour description especially if u look at mixed breeds as well as the ideal breed .
You are looking for the dog that fits your house and not necessarily a particular breed .
Also contact breed rescues as well as general rescues . There are loads out there
I e-mailed a number of breeders fairly local(ish) to me plus one that I had previously bought a puppy from asking if they had any older dogs available. I was offered a 6-year-old ex-breeding bitch from one breeder and a 3-year-old bitch (possibly failed show dog) from another. I was honest about living with children and cats. We also have a rescue mongrel ex-street-dog from North Macedonia.
I’m not even sure where to start. I’ve looked into local dog homes but no luck.

Sorry if I’ve missed that you’ve done this, but on the KC website there is a search facility for the different breed rescues. If you click on rescue dogs then type the breed name you can get the contact details for the rescues and they can keep your details on file for when they get suitable dogs in. Just another option!

I'd be very careful re a puppy from the KC lists. One year, when sales were low, we advertised a litter with the KC and were not happy to find ourselves listed with known puppy farmers. All that appears (appeared) to be necessary was for the litter to be KC registered and the fee paid. Never again. It may well be different re adopting an older dog from there.
Thank you so much. I didn’t know about this so thank you for that.

If that's for me

just to add that from my experience, being on a KC list isn't necessarily a guarantee of a reputable breeder although of course, if a breeder takes the time to involve the KC, it might be some indication of good intent?
It's always down to going, seeing and getting a good feeling about a purchase which should obviously be for a life-time. And I feel it's important to be able to get along with your breeder (if relevant - a puppy).
I don’t know anything about purchasing a dog. To be honest I am not looking for a puppy, I would much rather rehome a dog. A friend of mine told me about this site, she got her dog from here, dog had few litters and after that she was regimes.

Just to clarify I’m not talking about the puppy finder part of the KC page, the same page is now the page that you can find the breed specific rescues on. You just have to click rescue dogs instead.

I assume you have looked at places like battersea and the dogs Trust or the rspca ?
Yeah, I did, they have lots of bigger dogs or child unfriendly, although I have found a 3 year old dog that I think would be suitable for us and with lots of love, training and time she would love my 10 year old daughter that been around difficult animals all her life. But they wouldn’t consider us at all.

I think have to keep trying as mamabas will tellnyoubit can be quite frustrating and iften they have mamy applications . Have u Googled dog rescues generally there quite a lot or animal resuces
Don't know where in the country u are but we have two near us rescue remedies and foal farm . With resuce remedies I would ring them as well as looking at their website.
I know u are thinking of small but u might consider a smaller retored greyhound . Very loving need little exercise and take up surprisingly little room .

Yes, Greyhound Rescue may be worth looking at and indeed, I've been unlucky with one Rescue of my main breed despite having had the breed since 1972!! To the point I don't bother with them any more.
