Did anyone on here think the flat coat retriever should have won?-personally i do because if ever a dog was in as good condition (that coat was immaculate!) and enjoying himself it was definately the flat coat- he should have been BIS with the Newfie in RBIS.
Would love to know anyone elses thoughts.

Personally, I was so relieved that he didn't - bad enough for the breed to get the group two years on the trot. For those who don't realise - it's not often good for a breed to be in the public eye - it encourages impulse breeding/buying without the homework being done first.

I had five enquiries for pups within an hour :(

For any of the Aussie people who went to Crufts - Accra took all the top placings - were they really the best ? Seems a little unusual, even tho' numerically Aussies are a small breed.

Hi Daisy,
Personally, I think a lot of fantastic dogs in all the aussie classes went unplaced. I made a decision not to enter and am pleased I didn't.......
How is your aussie doing???

It seems a shame that there wasn't a puppy, or special junior class - Al was "showing" Rushbottom Roi (who didn't want to be there, didn't want to run, didn't see why he should :-)) for Nicky, (because as she put it - "you qualified him so you show him") - and Roi is not 2 until July/August (he qualified in puppy at Peterboro last summer). He and several other youngsters were in with the "big boys". The Leonbergers, who had the same number of entries as the Aussies, had special junior classes as well.

I notice that on an Aussie breed ring, somebody from abroad mentions professional handlers - were there any - not as far as I knew - or should we take it as a compliment that they all looked professionals???? (Not sure about Al with Roi, though!!)

As for Miss Loki No-knickers - as she couldn't find any, she didn't go!!! Still..... there's always next year - and we'll have her two ciggie-stealing offspring there - hopefully!

Hi Margot,
Yes, there was a ''handler'' there......... A few people had also flown in from the U.S. to watch the judging. It would have been nice to have a 'special yearling' class as my bitches are just 19 months old, too old for 'junior' but too immature for 'post graduate'. Never mind........always next year. :-)

She is doing very well, apart from this barking problem. The barking on the lead isn't such a problem now - if she does start, she will stop on command. Our biggest problem is off the lead, but we are avoiding the situation by putting her back on the lead whenever we see someone without a dog approaching. Also, we have been taking her to crowded places, but she doesn't seem to bark then ! The barking seems mostly to happen outside our house and in the field next to it.

Anyway, we are persevering and I feel more positive about it now - we had a few family problems a month or so ago and it started to get me down.

Thanks for enquiring - I'll let you know when she has stopped completely :) :) (fingers crossed)

When I first saw the Flat Coat - I immediately thought he was the winner - couldn't beleive it when the Peke won. I also liked the Irish Terrier, but he didn't get thro the group judging. One of the BBC presenters ( the American one - forget his name) kept stressing throughtout the programme the judging was not only about breed standards, but that the dog should be fit for its 'purpose' - still trying to imagine what purpose the peke has other than a lap dog - sorry to all the (now enraged) peke owners but I just can't see it !!

Hi,
I think originally Pekes were kept as "temple dogs" in China - their "job" was to precede the Emperor in ceremonies and announce his arrival. They were held sacred, and punishment for theft or defamation of any of the emperor's dogs was slow death by torture (so be careful what you say!!)

They were also used as handwarmers in the large sleeves of Chinese robes.

Neither of these roles really requires great speed or stamina, so I suppose they are still "fit for their original purpose"! :)

The greyhound was lovely. The retriever also and the newfy. I just didn't want the poodle to win or the 1 that did win.
