Hi all! Long time no see, i Hope everyone is doing well

Ive a little concern that I’d appreciate advice on please
I have a 5.1kilo havanese bitch who has been mated three times (my sire)
I’m a bit concerned that multiple mating could produce too many embryo for her to carry
I know the nature usually takes care and reabsorbs excess
But she is quite a Cinderella so I would not like her to suffer with a big litter.
In your experience does/can multiple ties increase litter size?
For reference the same stud produced 6 pups from another bitch from a single tie …

Thanks!

I think litter size is determined by how many eggs the female released - each ejaculation contains hundreds of millions of sperm so any normal egg that’s there and ready should be fertilised.

People like to do multiple matings because even with progesterone testing you can’t tell exactly when the perfect time is, so best to mate on multiple days just to make sure you don’t miss ovulation.

Although we have always gone for 2 matings, usually two days apart, it really only takes one....... bearing in mind sperm lives where it should be for some time beyond the mating.

One of my largest litters (9) was from a single mating, and my smallest (3) from multiple matings.

The average has been 6, and as I don't  normally progesterone test I prefer multiple matings.
