Damation x Bassett = Stroppy little man! He's George. He has the coat, and mental height of a Dally (he thinks he's tall) He has the ears, eyes, mouth (baggy) and legs of a Bassett. He has a bad attitude, he takes every opportunity to stand on things cos he thinks he should be taller. Actually, I think he was the result of an unscrupulous, meddling breeder. I think he'll develop joint problems as he has a heavy body but his legs are not strong. He will grumble at other dogs - irrespective of size and will take any other dog on! He adored my Dobe. Now she has gone, our two cats (who used to live in the garage cos she chased them) have now moved back indoors. If they lie in the doorway, George just whines to go out. He won't use the dog flap if they are near it. He's scared stiff of them. They are ruining his Life! Im not sure what to do with him.

Our lab is afraid of cats because: A) they hiss and B) they have claws! When he was a puppy, he tried to play with a cat who didn't want to play back, and he got a good swipe to the nose (no damage done, but it scared the life out of him). He may begin to screw up enough courage after he gets used to it. I've been told that you should not "baby" dogs when it comes to their fears (provided that they're reasonable ones, like thunder and the like). You should just act as if everything is normal, not give in to his crying, and eventually he'll learn to use the door flap again.

God I wish my lab was scared of my cats. She chases my poor cats everywhere.
One of my cats is a wimp and runs away so I can understand why Darcy chases her but Emily is a real tough nut and stands up to Darcy and gives her a swipe on a regular basis. But all that results in is Darcy chasing her round with blood pouring off her nose. It hasn't done anything to deter her
