I have just taken the two new feline members of the family for their first vet check and to get some worming tablets.
To my surprise and pleasure I was not charged a.consult fee just £11.50 for.the wormers

Maybe that's normal for for first checks but I was certainly not expecting it at all

Sounds good, I took our new rescue for 1st appointment  at the end of Jan, just for general check, weigh-in etc, and no charge at all.
I like that system

There are some good, altruistic vets out there. A friend’s dog was attacked recently and required treatment at the vets. The vet did not charge as it ‘wasn’t her fault’. It’s nice to hear that this can happen still.

I think these cases (no or less charges) apply when the vet practice isn't a chain practice?  A single vet practice has more ability to individually charge whereas big chain vets have set fees, and that's it.  However finding a single-vet practice locally can be difficult.  Both the vet practices in my town have sub-clinics in surrounding various villages but I have a suspicion that some of Frankie's bills were adjusted to fit the situation at the time.

The practice I use isn't a single vet practice, but is totally independent & has their own out of hours service. Far cheaper than the chain practice in the same area, which charges £7 for weighing a single dog, has no out of service or facilities for over night stays(the customer has to pay for the transport to the vet hospital they use for out of hours), they do however offer dog neuters from 10 weeks of age :roll:

Mine is an independent owned practice who employs a number of vets . She swears she will stay that way until she retires . I think over my dead body was the comment!
Fortunately she has a way to go to retirement

They charge for weighing a dog??  Good grief!

Enough to put anyone off weighing their dog . Ridiculous!

They consider it a VN appointment.!!!

It's very heartening when we feel we can trust our vets.

I recently had a Toy breed bitch in for a spay. My vet didn't charge me for clipping her nails. In comparison my last vets charged me £25 each for clipping two Toy dogs' nails while they were under anaesthetic for dentals!

Incidentally both practices are independent.

Several times the vet nurses at the surgery we use have clipped my rabbits’ nails for free when they’ve gone in for dentals. I usually ask (and expect to pay) but if I forget and they need doing, they just do the trim and don’t charge.

And the scale is right there in the waiting room for anyone to use.

Charging to weigh - the scales in the practice I use are just inside the front door so it's easy to pop a dog on - no need for 'expert' help, unless they want to check re medicine doseage.

At my vet too, you don't even need to talk to anyone unless you want their records updated with a change in weight.

At my vet the scales are in a surgery, but if I go at a quiet time (usually 2pm ish) they are happy for me to pop a dog on the scales with no charge.
