Thank you Emz, some people dont understand why you can only have the 1 mateing, im not over the moon with it but was told this before we took our female.
Good luck to you Emz also, would love to experiment with the matel along side the blood test to see if you get the same ovulation reading may do that on a female soon.
We live in Lancashire (am i allowed to say this)? im new to this forum.
Wow £80 for a pre mate blood test is expensive.
Hope your female is in welp for you fingers crossed.

well we were offered as many matings as we wanted, but I felt it best for my bitch and my circumstances that we didn't stay over there we done the trip all in a day :-o she is also a maiden bitch and performed perfectly, it was reassuring to say the least that the stud we used (very experienced and amazing to watch!) apparently will only mate when the time is right and we had a very successful tie of 40 mins so that was a relief i have to say. like you i was fretting that we had the right day etc. we are on day 25 now and so far it is looking promising, we have had 1 bought of sickness, discharge is starting to appear and her rib cage has broadened somewhat! i just hate all this waiting around..... :-D
- By annastasia [gb] Date 30.08.08 10:19 UTC
sounds promising Emz with your female, our stud dog too is very experienced and will only mate if the female is spot on. we had a 20 minute tie, i nervous very.

My female scanned today no puppies, im devastated, oh well back to Germany in January ish
- By Emz77 [gb] Date 24.09.08 16:33 UTC
I'm sorry to hear that! is your scanner experienced?
- By annastasia [gb] Date 25.09.08 00:19 UTC
Yes very experienced, he been scanning 20 years plus,  im gutted but what can you do? she may just not be ready, everything for a reason, she 3 next month, her mother is so fertle, i wasnt going to scan her until next week, at 5 weeks, but at least i know now and wont be getting paranoid everytime i look at her.
- By cocopop [gb] Date 25.09.08 06:07 UTC
Sorry to hear that. Will you get a free mating next time she's in season, as you were only allowed one mating this time?
- By annastasia [gb] Date 25.09.08 09:02 UTC
Yes if the dog is still in Germany, if not we should be allowed an alternative, a son of his who is believed to be an upcomming star, we must wait and see now, she's a 5 monthly season female, so maybe January, just gutted as we wanted the whole of next year in the showring without any interuptions. and a daughter to keep off her. Oh well at least my mind at rest now.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 25.09.08 19:37 UTC
Annastasia someone who used my boy had her dog scanned at 5 weeks by someone who had been doing it for years and told definitely no pups there, the owners were sure that she was and asked for him to repeat the scan 2 weeks later being told only 1 or 2 there at 9 weeks exactly she had 5 very healthy pups.

Not wanting to worry you or anything but I'd have her re-done in a couple of weeks if you are still unsure.

That is sad news :(  I would definitely definitely definitely take perrodeagua's advice.

Good luck Annastasia, I really hope your girl really is in pup - I am making a journey to Sweden next year for my bitch - I really feel your disappointment and I would be totally the same.
- By annastasia [gb] Date 26.09.08 11:17 UTC
Thank you guys, its hit home today, i seen her this morning and wanted to cry, just hope and pray he is wrong and she is carrying at least 2 puppies.
Good luck in Sweden, hope you get your girl in whelp, keep us posted please.
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 26.09.08 16:53 UTC
can totally empathise with you annatasia as my girl missed easrlier in the year and i was so down about it - its like you have to rearrange the next few months as all previous plans have been around having puppies. Its horrible, its like you've done the pregnancy test yourself.

I am now waiting to try her again but she is holding out on her season - aahhh. Back to not being able to plan to far ahead in case she starts her season, in case we have to go for mating and in case we have puppies!!!!!!!!!!
- By annastasia [gb] Date 27.09.08 00:59 UTC
Yes Lorripop, plans never go right, our plan was to compete again next year at the sieger show with our female, (with a litter behind her) she competed last year and was top Uk female in her age group, we gave it a miss this year to mature and let her have a litter hopefully,
now if we mate her next season we wont be able to prepare her for the biggest show on our calender again, she can go far again and get top honours,  now we in a big dillema, your correct hun its like you took the test yourself, i knew with my scan man face she had missed< he knew this was v important litter (they all r dont get me wrong)  but 1st time we get on a VA dog in Germany, £1,600 expenses, for stud fee, hotels, travel, fuel, i would be made up with just 2 puppies to keep, never wanted any to sell, just to keep off my female.
Good luck hun with your future plans, fate works in strange ways, you will get your litter im surre, keep me posted, this is the best forum ever, im addicted now

If my bitches tail goes to one side I'll know it's the time! Well you'll be wrong.  That is a very inexpereinced persons view.

SOME bitches will flag from day 2 right to 20 days. It doesn't mean they are ready.

Hi Annastasia

Is it possible to have chilled or frozen semen sent over next time to save you the hastle of going all the way back
- By pja [gb] Date 01.10.08 09:49 UTC
I have a bitch in whelp at the moment.  She had 6 Premate tests at a cost of over £50 each and each test said "Ovulation imminent, retest in 24 hours".  She has silent seasons so I didn't have a clue which day she was really on.  I missed a day between both the 4th & 5th and 5th & 6th tests just to see if the result would be "proceed to mating" if I waited a bit longer.  But the 6th test still said to retest in 24 hours.  She had been standing for my other bitches for several days though.  The stud dog was a very long way away so I really wanted to only go once, and decided to travel to him the next day and see what happened.  She stood very well and is now in whelp, but the Premates were a complete waste of time and money.  I asked the vet how ovulation could be imminent for 8 days!  She just said that is what the test said.

In the UK there are quite tight restrictions on the import of semen, and also the Kennel Club will not register puppies from AI without prior permission in most cases, and not from UK resident dogs ecept a few exceptions.

The Germans wouldnt allow us to ship semen over from his dog anyway, none of them will i doubt, we must go back in January ish, and hopefully try to get more than 1 mating this time,

I have used these ovulation pads,  But they go out of date within 12 months  so don't buy to many. If you complain about not being told about them failing you get blocked on messenger.  I found this not a very professional way to behave.  Good luck

If it was possible to test for ovulation this way, then strips/pads would be manufactured for this.purpose  . and we could avoid having to blood test.

The success using testing equipment NOT DESIGNED for this purpose, is like wearing a lucky hat, pure coincidence.

Bitches if mated in standing heat to a fertile male, will become pregnant more often than not.

Hi there,  l have a very positive result on an ovulation test pads, l decided to go to my vets to get a blood test and my bitch is not ready for a few days yet.  I would not trust these ovulation test pads at all.  They are not accurate enough.  Best to get a progesterone test.  I hope that helps other folk.

Hi everyone ,
Here my experience  I jumped on the ovulation page wagon  both my girls seasons.  Went for it both dates   first season was day 9  then second time we tried her was  day 11 on her year apart season .
The company who do these pays also suggest pregnant tests so we bought these also  both times we uses Artificial  insemination  . After matings we waited done tests an the first time she wasn't pregnant scanned empty.  Second time the pregnancy test said pregnant we did two both saying pregnant   scanned at day 30 and she was empty . So frustrating I'm really struggling to get her bred . She is 3 years old fully health tested all her scores heart all tested she is super health same with the stud as I bred him from my other dobermann bitch .  Any one help me where I am going wrong .  Should I try once more or just have her neutered

> both times we uses Artificial  insemination

Can I ask why? Natural matings do tend to have a higher success rate, along with maintaining a breeds ability to reproduce naturally.
- By Murphy36 [gb] Date 01.07.22 16:14 UTC
She won't let male near her  at all   literally tries to take face off him when he gets close enough .
- By jogold [gb] Date 01.07.22 19:01 UTC
If she's being like that you must be trying too late.

Or too early. My breed would be no where near ready at days 9 - 11.

If this is more than normal maidenly behaviour, her temperament may be unsuitable for breeding.

A male should understand when a bitch signals reluctance.

Allowed to court by being able to play, and introduced every day or 2, should enable her to relax and accept him when she is actually ready.
