Hi, pup was doing fine until yesterday with pooping etc the only thing he had 4months was a 5-10 mon chew on a bully stick and a nexgard tablet two days ago now has watery poop with blood in has vomited a little twice clear liquid almost just water and a little bit of bile this morning? Should i just feed a bland diet today see how he goes or ? Any recommendations please hes fine and bright otherwise running around chewing biting normal puppy things.

If his poo is bad and he’s vomiting I’d be concerned if he could’ve managed to eat anything else…and perhaps have a blockage? Or it could be he’s eaten something he shouldn’t have and it’s severely disagreed with him, maybe pinched some human food or eaten something in the garden that isn’t suitable for dogs? What type of blood, is it bright red?

I’d be taking photos of the blood in the poo and if it continues anymore today then I’d take him to the vet just to be on the safe side, you can show the photos to the vet, he’s only young and from what I’ve gathered a small breed so I’d always err on the side of caution

Given his age, i think i'd be going to the vet. It could be colitis but blood in poo is not something to "wait and see" with so as madforlabs says, photograph and make an appointment. Pups can go downhill very quickly so i always err on the side of caution.

Giardia is also a possibility.

Thankyou i did go straight to the vet she put him on blans chicken and rice which he has had today and hasnt had another motion since so im hoping its sorted just worried now he hasnt been

Definitely worth checking.  Frankie came to us at 4 months, producing what sounds like a similar stool situation.  I had it tested for Giardia, Campanella, and all the other internal parasites.   His test came back pos. for Giardia and also for roundworm eggs despite him having been said to have been wormed before coming to me.  I also had Teazel's stools checked (for Giardia) as this was the first time any of mine had ever had that!!  I was shocked because he didn't come from some BYB!  It took a switch from Panacur to Metronidazole before we got clear test results back.  If it is this, be careful yourself - if you are not anyway just now !, wash hands carefully as Giardia can transfer to humans.  Clean where he empties well too.  And be aware that sometimes the protozoa that isn't killed off, buries into the gut to reappear later if the animal is stressed.

Could also be colitis.

Bland chicken is good but personally I’d swap the rice for sweet potato or canned (100%) pumpkin…we get our pumpkin from Sainsbury’s
