We are looking for a border terrier puppy coming from a trustworthy breeder. If anyone is aware of any breeders who have a litter, we would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I  have   border colli   ,4  years old
She is gorgeous and very charming! We are looking to mate him one time just to keep the pick of the litter. We would like to breed him with a dog similar to his breed so anywhere along the lines of a medium sized fluffy dog! We will not be charging any money. Hope to hear from some of you! Thank

I  live   in   the  Southampton

This is not normally how things are done I'm afraid.   In any case you'd do better going back to whoever you brought your dog from if you want similar rather than have him used at stud (if anybody is interested) and risk opening Pandora's Box.   Dogs often change after they have been allowed to mate.

Your dog would first need all his breed health testing which include hip scoring, eye testing including gonioscopy, DNA testing for CEA/CH, NCL5, TNS, MDR1, SN, IGS. No responsible breeder would touch a border collie stud with our these tests being done and seeing the results. You would also need to ensure the bitch has had all her breed related health testing (even crosses should be tested for the conditions breeds In them can have).

Second you will need to keep in mind he may change if used at stud. He may mark, look for and harass bitches or become intolerant of other males.

Third you need to think about why someone would want to use him. Is he working, sport or show bred? Have you done anything with him in one of those three areas? As it's the bitches owner who picks the stud and there is a lot of studs to pick from.

I don't think anyone does pick of the litter.  the bitch owner is the one taking the risks of huge vet bills if things go wrong, all the rearing, the small but real risk of losing pet bitch if it goes wrong-after all that they want the pick quite rightly.

Actually it happens all the time amongst breeders in my main breed.  No money changes hands although whether the stud dog owner gets pick of bitches is less likely I suggest given that most good breeders breed for a bitch to take them into the next generation.  If said breeder needs a new male however, the arrangement could involve the most promising bitch.

In my breed generally the Stud dog owner gets to buy a puppy, as often a litter may be planned with them in mind, as our males get very few mating opportunities, as we are numerically small.

The champion 4 1/2 year old male whose Mum I bred, and have a pup from a litter he sired has only sired 3 litters.

I have had a pup from one, and they have a male pup from his most recent litter

His champion sire in same ownership only sired 2 litters, he is now 12 years old.

His sire is our breed record holder, and his mother produced 4 champions in that litter.

The record holder sired more litters, (10 over 7 years) but our numbers were higher in his youth, as he was born in 2003.

I've had several pick of litter pups as stud fees over the years with my borzoi boys. My current silken boy, an import and European junior champion has been used 3 times (with 3 different import girls) and I've had pick of litter from 2 of these pairings and a fee the 3rd time.

Back to the original question though, it would be far easier for you to go back to your boys breeder for a relative if you want another. Having someone use your dog is not as easy as you might think. It can't be planned in advance, the bitch will come in season when she does, and sods law it will be when you had other things planned that will have to be cancelled. I've had bitch owners stay with me for a week or more to get the right day, it's exhausting and time consuming. I've only allowed my boys to be used because I'm passionate about the breeds concerned and love talking dog with fellow enthusiasts.
