Can you put Bio-oil on a dog’s scar ?
- By furriefriends Date 29.10.21 21:10 UTC
Just looked at the ingredients list and given dogs lick themselves I would be reluctant as not sure its safe to ingest.

I'd be more tempted towards some paw balm. at least that is none toxic when licked and would moisturise the area

It's toxic if ingested, not just to dogs, if used for people, should be applied using gloves. Wouldn't use it on any of mine

I'd that bio oil Ann? I've never read any warning son it regarding gloves

I would second paw balm, I would say coconut oil but if its a place easily licked then it’ll most likely come off as quick as you’ve put it on as mine love coconut oil

According to a masseuse friend of mine, who treats a fair few new mums for their stretch marks. Bio oil is good for lessening them & scars, but the medical advice she was given was always wear gloves to prevent the oil being absorbed via the fingers, ingested in anyway is extremely toxic. She only uses it if her clients request it

I imagine that applies only to someone who might be applying it many times a day (to different people), just as x-ray operators have to stay outside the room when taking images, but not the patient! If it was dangerous to touch you wouldn't be able to apply it to the skin to heal the scar ....

Interesting. I know there are few products that are used for more medical massage treatments that if u are using them frequently ie nursing you are advised to wear gloves as it is absorbed through the skin and too much is toxic  . Probably similar if u are constantly working with it

That's what is was thinking jg or it would need to be on the packets.  Still wouldn't want my dog or myself to ingest it though

It's not used until the wound is fully healed & has left a scar, it's certainly not used to heal wounds way too toxic. Scars are healed wounds & they themselves don't required healing.

"It has some side effects such as Skin irritation, redness, irritated skin conditions."

" It is prescribed for Smooth Skin, Skin Toning, Skin Toning, Stretch Marks & Scars"

It is emphatically not prescribed to"heal"wounds/incision sites, simply it is used to lessen scarring.

That’s what I use Bio oil for especially on my skin at the moment as radiotherapy has made the area, scar and all, rather hard and stiff. Works nicely to reduce the scar and soften the damaged skin. I use it every few days currently

I just googled this "Don't use it if your skin or scars are cracked or bleeding. The oil contains fragrance, and it can be harmful if it gets into the body. It should also never be swallowed"
