I just picked up on this article about what's happening to puppies bought during lockdown (UK).

https://uk.yahoo.com/news/dogs-bought-in-lockdown-abandoned-hope-rescue-centre-113118509.html

Pretty sad eh.

I saw this too,

Covid: Dogs bought in lockdown being abandoned https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-58996017

Also very sad, why are people so stupid. Poor pups.

I don't understand why people would do this. Won't the rescue still take the dog if it comes from a home and isn't a stray?

Isn't it better for the home to be honest so they can tell the rescue about the dog's behaviour, preferences, food issues, health history etc etc.... don't they feel guilty enough to at least give the dog this much...

I thought that's what rescue would do .
Maybe its people who feel guilty or embarrassed if they tell the truth .imo so they should .
We shall be back to those adverts of a dog is for life not just for Christmas soon

Usually yes, but rescues do get full to capacity and then have to start a waiting list for people who want to surrender their dogs. When that happens some people dump the dogs, others pretend to have found a stray.

That makes sense goldmali

Exactly - this apparently is what's happening.

Makes me so mad. I've come across so many dogs with issues where the owners felt working from home was a good time to get a puppy. Working from home full time meant they didn't have the time for a puppy as they are still working. People blamed they couldn't train or socialise their pups properly, poor excuse as I know people who did get a puppy, planned and have done very well. They trained and uses 121 trainers, they socialised by getting their pups outside, they also left their pups so they didn't suffer from SA...
Way too many people buying from unsavoury sources because they wanted a puppy and NOW. Buying working line pups when they have no idea with what they are doing nor have any intention of doing any form of work the breed needs.

Bad breeders and bad owners have created this issue..

You're not kidding.  BYBs producing all these puppies - only interested in the sale price coupled with people waking up and thinking now is a really good time to get a puppy = THE DISASTER now being seen.

I am not seeing an influx of dogs into my local rescues, but I am seeing more older pups/young dogs for sale. I often wonder if they have a waiting list for small/cute dogs as they never get advertised on their sites.

I wonder if people are trying to sell them first and if that fails they are handing them to rescues? It is quite scary to see the number of big bull breeds for sale including American Bulldogs, XXL American Bullies and Cane Corso for sale quite cheap. I do worry about what kind of home they will end up in.

Most likely I'd say. Many will want to recoup some of the crazy purchase price back.

In Malinois we see a lot of people advertising pups aged 4 months to a year, usually well under a year. They state the pup has to go due to no fault of its own, they haven't got the time, circumstances have changed etc. People then buy these pups, both because they are cheaper and they think they are helping the dog. What happens next is that they quickly realise that the reason for why the pup was sold in the first place was most likely that it is an untrained, unsocialised pup from working lines of a breed that few can cope with. The pup then ends up in rescue with even more issues. It's a nightmare.
