My 10 yr old bitch has put on a few lbs and I need to get her weight down.
Can you let me know which is the best food and where to buy from? I can’t find anything suitable in the supermarkets by me not pets at home.
She prefers wet food but will tolerate some kibble or mixer.
Thanks

Why not just feed less of what she usually has ?
If u want to pad it out adding some green vegetables would do that .

That's what I do FF. I know some people have done well with feeding Burns adult food. Apparently it doesn't work to put on weight, no idea what is in it.
Personally feeding less and bulking with frozen veg works for me.

I find cucumber sticks are well received and effective. I just replace some of the kibble with them when the usual suspect looks and feels a bit bigger than she should.

Oh yes cucumber is our number one favourite. I cant get a cucumber out of the fridge without a nose pushing my hand

River insists that cucumber isn’t actually food and while tell politely accept it if offered it’s going to end up abandoned on the floor!
He’ll eat bits of frozen mixed veg though and he likes tomatoes and almost all fruits.
He’s always been on the skinny side of the healthy weight range but I’m another who’s in favour of just adjusting the amount I feed.

I’ve always found “Burns Weight control chicken and oats” to be effective.
I buy a lot of my dog stuff from Zooplus.co.uk and they have it.

I'd just feed her less and once you see the weight coming off, up the exercise.
I don't believe these specific foods are anything more than just a fad. And that includes so-called breed-specific food.
ps I did use Burns (regular) for a while, successfully but I have read that normal Burns is known for not putting weight on dogs.

Burns is the one food my lot looked at and flatly refused to eat. Now that would get weight off!!

I'm another for just adjusting what she gets, my 12 year spayed bitch (15kg) only gets an egg cup full of kibble at night, it looks so pathetic in her bowl but she really can't eat more than that without getting a little podgy. My younger, more active boys get about 6 x that amount. She also gets a frozen raw chicken drumstick in the morning and natural treats through the day.
I agree with Chaumsong. You might be surprised at how little to feed but it is the only answer. My 9kg sheltie had to be reduced to 6kg. i tried various weight loss kibbles but what worked was 30gm raw complete food twice a day. This is TINY, a big teaspoonful, but it worked. Took 4 years though for the steady loss, then I started giving her a little more, now about 40gm twice a day.
Thanks everyone! I will take in your suggestions for adding more veg, she is struggling with her hips so I need to get the weight down so I can up the exercise.
As for cucumber that would be a big fat no from her, she would rather go hungry!

Stick to green veg like brocoli ,beans etc rather than carrots as the green veg are lower in calories

Yes carrots can be quite calorific. I just buy frozen mixed veg and rinse it off and pop it on top of their usual food. Make sure no onions or leeks, I'm sure you know that

I agree, I have found diet foods leave the dog in poorer coat condition.
Better to feed less of a high nutrient quality foid, and add veg for bulk.
I like Simpsons.Premiym range of foods.
They do wet food too, order on-line, come.within 48 hours in my experience.
I would avoid carbs. Just as in people, carbs increase insulin which causes weight-gain.
A ketogenic diet is extremely low in carbs - and dogs need even fewer carbs than people do...
All kibble has too many carbs in it, in order to make the nuggets it needs carbs to form the shape.
So personally, I'd feed raw.
