Hello.
My 11 day old puppy is the only one out of the litter of 5 that lies on his back. Because of this his siblings keep sucking on his genitals. This has caused them to become sore and red. He's also having trouble urinating, I believe because of this. I've popped some sudocrem on, but is there anything else I can do? This might sound silly, but even a small nappy on him to deter his siblings until it gets better?
Thank you

Sudocrem is toxic to dogs. Would suggest Vaseline instead

Def. not Sudocrem but I'm wondering whether his inability to urinate (trouble doing so) is to do with the attention from others, or whether he has an odd smell which is attracting the others ..... chicken or egg situation. You may be as well to have your vet take a look, just in case what's going on is more sinister than you think?

I'd use.Vaseline rather than Sudicrem.
I have often found pups sucking on pups genitals, and on Mums too.

Is the mother not stimulating him to pee or are you doing it? Sometimes if another pup is sucking willy as I call it that can cause them to go there and then anyway. Too young to be peeing themselves on a voluntary basis

Oh I didn't even think of that! I will give the vet a call. What could that be? Is it something mum has eaten or infection?

Thank you for letting me know. I've since removed the sudocrem and found out the vaseline. I've popped a small bit on him.

His mum does it but stops just before they toilet. All 4 other siblings I see wee but he is the only one who hasn't and is very swollen from the sucking. I'm with mum supervising constantly while the pups are awake. But once the pups come off mum to sleep, I quickly do the washing up, shower, get food etc but when I come back each time (literally between 5 - 10 minutes) he's getting sucked on

If she isn't fully getting them to toilet you need to convince her to continue longer or step in and do it yourself. I use unscented baby wipes for pee and poo when it's needed to give mum an extra helping hand. I had one bitch who refused point blank to poo her pups and another who would but not long enough so I stepped in and did what she didn't do

LOL I had a madam like that - she'd pee her lot, but wouldn't have anything to do with the other. As a result, despite my efforts I think, gravity apart, they spent a lot of their early days quite uncomfortable poor dears. That was one I only took one litter from!! But that was enough actually as she gave me two good puppies, one of each, to run on.

I spent every meal time doing it and then every other meal time. We struggled with constipation, needed lactulose from the vet and then it went the other way and needed something to firm them up. I was thankful when they started weaning and started to poo themselves.
People think breeding is easy but a large litter and having to top up milk as I did with this bitch as it took a long time before she had enough milk and then stimulating them, 2 weeks in and very little sleep I was on my knees and crying. I was grateful for the help my friends did to step in to allow me some sleep.
Sadly not every litter is plain sailing but when it is then its not as difficult.
Constipation and diarhorrea can kill a puppy quickly so anyone reading this if your bitch is not doing the right amount of stimulation and you can't get her to then you need to step in and do it yourself.

I tried sitting the puppies in that litter in the sink of warm water. Really. Thankfully that situation didn't last very long.....
I also tried liquid paraffin (to soften the stool), which didn't really produce much result.
I had this with one of mine! She would do the pees but the poos were too much effort...thankfully her being a lab I was able to encourage her by putting some oil (coconut or veg) on the pups bums. But it was a big effort on hers and my part
