The other thing you can do is make up a mix of scrambled egg, goats milk, molasses, cheese and I add in rice pudding too. And when it's a little cooler add in vanilla ice cream. That's a lot of calcium

Tesco's own brand indigestion tablets are calcium carbonate - same drug, different purpose, and cheap as chips. My two like the orange flavour, but they are Beagles and they eat anything. If you do use an own brand indigestion tablets as a source of calcium, just check that they do not contain xylitol.

I have to ask - would she suffer with a calcium deficiency if she's only feeding one puppy?  Forgive me but this calcium supplementing is something beyond my experience.  Only once did we have something like this but it was a few weeks into her nursing a big litter.

Did your vet x-ray her to confirm she was empty when he saw her?

Our bet did a scan not an X-ray. He did a physical examination. She is eating and drinking fine. He put her behaviour down to hormones but it has allot worse since our visit.

Well fwiw, after a prolongued overnight whelping (I camped out in my then vet's waiting room and had to call him down, he lived over the practice, for another oxytocin shot if nothing was happening) the next morning he examined her and declared her empty, so we came home, me, my bitch and her then 4 puppies.  Once home I was in the bathroom sorting myself out, leaving the new family with my husband to supervise.  He shouted that another one was arriving!  That puppy couldn't be felt, internally or externally - she was hidden in the birth canal.  So sometimes a physical examination isn't accurate!!  No x-ray was thought necessary on that occasion.

Thank you, I will book an x-ray in. I am not taking any chances. You would assume a vet knows what he’s talking about but not all have the experience of whelping bitches. As your story shows things are very rarely textbook.
