My local Vet, here in Bude, has put a warning on their website, not about Parvo, but Kennel Cough

"**Kennel Cough cases locally**

There have been a few cases locally again and we see this from time-to-time."
There is more if you want to go to their website (Tamar Vets - News).

I have noticed a lot of dogs in and around town at the moment and with people staycationing, with their dogs, we are bound to see diseases we don't normally see locally, during the summer months.  Grrr.

You get kennel cough everywhere, it's like a cold for us, most people get one every couple of years.

I've never worried about kennel cough, never taken any of my dogs to the vet with it, I just keep them home so not to spread it around and if they're really bad give them some benylin or honey lintus in milk. However, a friends 1 year old, fit and healthy dog almost died after a bout of kennel cough recently. It was touch and go for a while, but he's on the mend now. It was a freak incident, he was lying on his back (as sighthound like to do) and he coughed and then choked, his owner turned him the right way up and patted his back until he brought up a lump of phlegm. The vet reckons that incident caused aspiration pneumonia and he got worse and worse over the next couple of days and ended up in the ICU at Glasgow vet college for over a week. The people who continue to walk their coughing dogs might pay attention to this, I'd hate to be responsible for a dog dying.
