Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Kc registration

Hi
My cocker spaniel show bitch is 8 months old and kc registered
I dont know if I will breed from her and I know I'd have to wait until she's around 2
But I'm just asking would I need permission from the breeder for any puppies to keep the kc registration?
Many thanks

If her kc reg has the endorsement 'progeny not for registration ' then yes you will have to speak to your breeder to have this lifted before you breed.
What did your contract say? Normally breeders use this endorsement to ensure an owner completes the recommended health testing for the breed and that the dog has no issue that means it shouldn't be bred.

For your breed the health testing would be Hip Scoring, Eye Testing and DNA testing for PLA, AMS, FN, AON and pdrd-PRA

Thanks Jo
I'll take a look at the contract

If she's endorsed not for breeding, it would be on her KC registration paper.  Unless things have changed with this (KC).   If she is endorsed, then as said, yes her breeder would have to agree to lift the endorsement for any puppies she has to be KC registered.   In any case, unless you know your way around the breed, her breeder should be the one to help you choose a stud dog that would/should (the best laid plans!) work with her.
