My second Pfizer dose is booked for a week today.  I'm going to have to ask them to cover my arm as I bled a bit after the first.   And then there's the 8-days of niggling headache which I realliy isn't repeated even if it went as soon as it came really.
- By Merrypaws [gb] Date 11.04.21 11:22 UTC Upvotes 4
I had my second dose yesterday morning - Astra Zeneca - 24+ hours on, I have only a slight soreness at the injection site. I did take yesterday easy, though, just in case. Hopefully I’ll have maximum immunity (whatever it is - a pity we can’t get titre tested*) at the beginning of May.

Best wishes to all vaccinees!

*If I dressed up as a giant mink, would the vet do a titre test? No, thought not ( and don’t want to be culled if I fail!).
- By CaroleC [us] Date 11.04.21 12:37 UTC
Had my second AZ jab yesterday too. I can hardly feel where the injection site was, and this time no 'morning after' effects either. Just hope I'm not speaking too soon!
- By furriefriends Date 11.04.21 15:47 UTC
2nd az  vaccine yesterday  has given me some effects.  General exhaustion and dizziness.  All worth it if it gives protection for this awful virus
- By Mayvis [gb] Date 11.04.21 16:29 UTC
Yes have had both vaccinations.

I had the Pfizer and was lucky to not have any issues at all.

In fact I barely felt the second one, the vaccinator asked me to drop my arm down as though it was a dead weight. Then he pressed firmly on the site to prevent any bleeding. His technique was top notch

As I had some bleeding after my first dose I'm going to have to mention this when I get my second, this coming Sunday.  I'm praying I don't get the headache I had, for 8 days, after the first!!

Just remembered my son has given plasma
as he had covid .they then tested his antibodies.  We were pleased to learn the reading was high and no need to dress as a  mink !
Atm they are saying antibody levels should be detectable for around 6 months . However as u would expect no comments about cell.mediated immunity

Very much “watch this space” then. 6 months will do very nicely to be going on with.

Saw the supervet on this morning today talking about he hes had covid twice!!!! He said the first time he had muscle pain in all his joints and he thought he was going to die at one point but his little border terrier and his cat kept him going.

> Saw the supervet on this morning today talking about he hes had covid twice!!!! He said the first time he had muscle pain in all his joints and he thought he was going to die at one point but his little border terrier and his cat kept him going.

I managed to miss that.   I have to say, having (partly!) read his second book recently (partly because I got fed up with the tone of the book) he is very much the drama queen.   Even when doing his incredible job (surgery), it's all about how difficult it all is etc.etc.......   I'm afraid I've rather gone off the man.

Covid twice - that was a bit 'careless' wasn't it?   Has he been vaccinated I wonder?   Even if he had incredible muscle pain etc.etc., he didn't die - was he even hospitalised and on a vent.?
- By JB07 [gb] Date 13.04.21 08:01 UTC
I missed parts of it i turned over and he was on.

He said the day he got the text for the jab he got covid the same day or somthing like that.

Heres a link to it https://youtu.be/NQ1PjHST1OI

I was bought that book as a present and got halfway through with a struggle before giving up. To say it was supposed to be how animals saved his life there was very little about animals. It just seemed to be repeating the same stuff over and over in different words

Moms first dose appointment has been cancelled as theres a shortage and i phoned up the centre and they said its due to the shortage appointments for first does are being cancelled so we can give those appointments to second does she said new first dose appointments wont become available until april 29th.

Moms a bit disappointed as she just wants to get her jab.

No were near us has appointments either and we use to have a walk in centre but thats appointments only now too for second doses.

Many thanks Merrypaws!!   Your name makes me laugh - our very first Basset was named (Kennel name) Fredwell Merry Boy.    If there was anything less like a merry boy, it was him
- By Jodi Date 17.04.21 16:06 UTC
Did you have the AZ vaccine? The nurse told my husband that if you had a reaction with the first jab you won’t get it as bad or at all with the second.

> Did you have the AZ vaccine? The nurse told my husband that if you had a reaction with the first jab you won’t get it as bad or at all with the second.

If this was for me, no I had the Pfizer the first time and it will be the same tomorrow.    A friend who has a friend who is a nurse, told her to drink a lot of water beforehand.   Trouble with that is I'll likely need the loo!!
- By Merrypaws [gb] Date 17.04.21 18:12 UTC

> Many thanks Merrypaws!!   Your name makes me laugh

Lol! The name is because I have Cockers - often (or used to be!) described as “the merry cocker” - and “paws” because they have paws, and when they’re happy they dance. They always make me laugh everyday, and I’m happy to share the joy.

I think a Bassett would dance a Sarabande or stately Minuet rather than a Cocker Polka. They always seem to me like serious, thoughtful dogs. (Anthropomorphising greatly here  .)
- By tatty-ead [gb] Date 17.04.21 21:46 UTC
Had my 1st jab on Feb 6th - no reaction at all, had 2nd this Thursday morning and frozen and shivering all evening woke about 3 times dripping sweat and too tired to do anything all day Friday, not as bad today but still not 100%.
Both doses were AZ

Just to reassure people that the vaccination doesn't have to produce side effects (so far!).   As posted, I had my second Pfizer jab on Sunday morning and unlike the first one, I didn't feel a thing (in fact I wasn't sure she'd done it), it didn't bleed afterwards and I have no bruising.   I was able to lie on the side the dose went in overnight last night and, so far (not to jinx it) no headache.   Quite what the previous nurse did I don't know!!   And even the muscle discomfort has all but gone now.

So all good.

Well I can finally join the club as I had first shot yesterday.
Guy had great technic as I didn't even feel anything.
Arm was a bit sore when I got home by last night whole left side was aching especially my leg although some was due to standing too long.
But for anyone out there don't make the mistake I did and fall asleep with jeans on as they ended up soaked I know they said you could get a slight fever but my GOD I nearly melted out of existence.
I feel great today.
- By suejaw Date 30.04.21 07:57 UTC
Well I've just been invited to book my 1st vaccine. Was soo excited until it gave me the nearest place to book is in your city FF and then followed by all the hubs in London. What the lol..
I'll have to wait now then as there is a massive hub in my city
- By furriefriends Date 30.04.21 08:58 UTC

- By Merlot [gb] Date 30.04.21 21:09 UTC Upvotes 2
I have had both now. I had the Pfizer and had no  reaction to either 1st or 2nd doses bar a slightly sore arm due to someone stabbing a needle in me !! My hubby too has had both with similar non reactions.

We have not had ours yet its not being given to our age group yet. But we both plan on having it as soon as its offered to us.

Next door is a single mother and her daughter who is in her 20's and her daughter cant have it due to being allergic but the mother could have it but has chosen to wait and her Doctor umderstands and is ok to wait until shes ready.

I asked the daughter why she was waiting ( i never see the mom as shes never been out simce last march)

And she said as stupid as this may seem its because of the people who have died after having the jab and theres 51 cases in the UK so far and even 1 death is enough to worry her even if its a 1 in a million chance shes a massive worrier and the reason shes waiting is because of me. She said she was made unemployed before the vaccine was available and has been applying for work since.

Her mom is worried that if she had the vaccine and she was one of the unlucky souls who gets a blood clot on the brain ect and dies her daughter will be left with nothing and left homeless. She said if anything happened to her i cant afford everything on my universal credit money.

They have no family at all and she knows its stupid she told her mom its stupid but her mom wont listern she would rather wait until her daughter has got a job before having it.

I agreed with the daughter that it was stupid but they both plan on staying in isolation ( they dont go out at all) everything is delivered to the house and they disinfect everything that enters the house.

I only saw her as she was taking the bins out with a mask on.

My husband said it may be silly but we have to respect her decsion as clearly fear is what fueling it and she'll have it when shes ready.

Had my 1st jab a few days ago, Moderna which I wanted at the location I wanted. Worth waiting a few weeks. All 1st jabs in this venue are Moderna now as its going into the 30 age group.
Well I started to feel off straight away, I checked in with st John's who were there. They sat me down with some water. I felt woozy for most of the day and a headache. Very sleepy. With everyone saying its the next day you get side effects, I got them straight away. I had taken paracetamol before and also after as advised.
Sore arm for a couple of days but that was it.

2nd one is already booked for August.
- By MamaBas [gb] Date 19.05.21 07:28 UTC
This is the reason they have you sit in a side area for 15 minutes (I think it was that) just in case there's an immediate reaction.  I was there 4 times (twice with my sig.other and twice myself) and never saw anybody in trouble.  There were Parameds. in attendance, just in case.
- By suejaw Date 19.05.21 09:10 UTC
The reaction did worry me, I get anxiety which then didn't help and I hadn't eaten before going so compounded it all lol

Lesson learned, eat before I go and fingers crossed I don't feel off for my 2nd. Didn't see anyone else have any concerns when I was there either Moderna or the AZ section as the room was split between the 2 vaccines and different areas to sit afterwards. They said that there was somewhere to lay down if I needed it

Good luck for your second jab sue , mamabas how were you with your second jab? Reading through the thread i saw you had a bad headach with your first.

I have to rant as if thats allowed. I hate anti vaxxers who scare other people out of having there vaccine.

My aunt is 60 and is vunerable due to being overweight and having diabetes apart from that shes very healthy

She was supposed to have had her first does on monday phoned her up this morning as i always do as she has no children and lives alone and has no pets either and she told me she chose not to have it yet. I asked why and she had seen all these posts about 51 deaths to blood clots and other posts on facebook that made her anxious about having it.

She said she would rather wait until more people have had it and wait until shes not as anxious.

I disagreed with her but i respect her decsion.

She will be self isolating still by staying in and having everything delivered to the house and she pays her bills online. Shes happy to stay at home and not go out at all.

I just hate these people are allowed to post these things its so unfair and evil to those who would have had the vaccine had they not got confused and not known who to believe.

> mamabas how were you with your second jab? Reading through the thread i saw you had a bad headach with your first.<br />

Yes, after the first Pfizer jab, I had a sore arm, and some bleeding at the inj. site + bruising (I do bruise easily) and a few days later, a niggling headache which lasted for 8 days, controlled with paracetamol.  I was about to talk to my GP when it just vanished.  Expecting my second jab to be as bad (it's said the second one is worse) I actually had none of that, just a sore arm.

I still believe having the jab (baring blood clots!!) is way better, side effects and all, than going down to Covid 19 and I'd urge anybody to go for it.
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 19.05.21 12:15 UTC
Me to mamabas i cant wait till its my turn to have it.

But i respect my aunt is anxious (shes on medication for her anxity) so she was the perfect pray for these anti vaxxers.

I know she will have it , its a matter of how long it takes for her to feel comfortable to have it.

But until then at least i suppose shes keeping herself and others safe by not going out at all and not having vistors.
- By suejaw Date 19.05.21 12:15 UTC
Have you spoken to her about getting a different vaccine if she is worried about blood clots. I was too as have a narrowing in a vessel in my neck hence wanted the Moderna as getting the Pfizer would have been even harder to get. It's why I waited for the location which is giving the Moderna and the 2 weeks for an appointment to become available. I googled the vaccine centre which said they were giving it as a 1st vaccine.
Worth having a nosey around re this and with 30's and under only being offered Moderna or Pfizer it will be easier to now get one of these. It's the AZ which has the blood clots linked and the J&J which we don't have yet, both are made in the same way.
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 19.05.21 12:27 UTC Edited 19.05.21 12:35 UTC
It was the Pfizer jab she was going to have but she read stuff online about that and its made her nervous.

Shes read a 2yr old died after being given the Pfizer jab and a 23yr old and thats enough for her to want to wait a little longer.
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 19.05.21 13:59 UTC
She also has had a bad reaction to the Flu shot and i know she ended up in hospital with it. Wich made her cautious of vaccines so reading the rubbish thats out there has made things even worse for her
- By masajackrussell [gb] Date 19.05.21 14:07 UTC Upvotes 1
I’ve become eligible for mine today. Trying to book it but the website says they can’t find a slot for my second vaccine at the same centre as my first - the others are all a proper trek away - but it won’t let me just book my first one and do the second one later. My husband had his first on Sunday just gone. No side effects at all other than a bit of tenderness at the injection site.
- By RozzieRetriever Date 19.05.21 15:27 UTC Edited 19.05.21 15:30 UTC Upvotes 4
I’ve had both of mine, no issues (AZ)

Sister in law and brother in law both caught Covid from her father. Father died, she’s still very ill (six months later) with side effects despite having eventually recovered from Covid.

For me it’s a no brainer, you’re more likely to have an issue with Covid than the vaccine. I hope you manage to convince her that the vaccine is ok and better than catching the actual lurgy!!
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 19.05.21 16:39 UTC Edited 19.05.21 16:43 UTC
Me to RozzieRetriever its gonna take time though as her anxity is very bad even before the stupid things she read online.

Im just glad shes not going out and not having any vistors in the mean time so shes a little safe from catching it as i know she cleans everything that gets delivered to her house.

She said she liked to loose a bit of weight and eat healthier before having it too.

Thing is with severe anxiety she doesnt think like us so if she believes that loosing some weight will help her have it then I'll support her.

Its just like im not superstitious but she is
- By furriefriends Date 19.05.21 17:06 UTC Edited 19.05.21 17:09 UTC Upvotes 2
Oddly it was because we had no vaccine or any other way of treating covid that set my anxiety rocketing.  Once the vaccines arrived and I had both of mine ,as has all the family  except for my son ,and my daughter has her second v shortly. Son  got covid at Christmas but thankfully recovered I now feel less anxious.  Be happier when son has his of course
Still very very careful and no I won't be going away whatever the colour is even in this country .
Its the antivaxers that anger me not those who are cautious as I hope they will eventually come round .and certainly not those who have medical.conditions  that mean they can't have the vaccine  its them we need to protect.
The real antivaxers do so much damage to us all with those views. No bill gates is not microchipping us all neither is our dna being damaged and I still only have one head !! As for some amti vaxxers who now belive the vaccine sheds and makes them ill so are wearing masks to protect against those who are vaccinated ust hilarious .
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 19.05.21 17:46 UTC
I couldn't agree more furriefreinds antivaxers boil my blood and im fed up of them scaring others from getting a vaccine that will save there life.

Same we normally go away every year to spain we have been going to sa coma for over 10yrs every year until last year and we wont be going this year or next year were looking at 2023 as the earliest and im not going away here either.

Thinking about it your right its ok if my aunt doesnt have it now the main thing is she does want it and will get vaccinated eventually and until then she will continue to stay at home and keep safe like shes been doing since last year.

I phoned her today and she feels a bit better but still nervous and she has decided she wants to loose some weight and get her immune system up before (again didn't "get" this but at least she will get the vaccine at some point) and is giving herself till october time to loose as much weight and then shell have it.

I suppose its better her getting it in the Autumn that not at all at least shes not against the jab
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 19.05.21 19:58 UTC Upvotes 1
Correct me if im wrong but you can only catch covid through droplets from an infected person like coughing, sneezing ( which is why we wear masks and keep our distance)  or if you touch somthing that an infected person touchs and then touch your eyes, nose or mouth? Thats why we have to wash our hands regularly.

Have i got that right or is there anything i missed?
- By RozzieRetriever Date 19.05.21 22:35 UTC Upvotes 1
I read somewhere very recently that ‘they’ think it’s less to do with touching surfaces than airborne droplets.

SiL’s consultant said it’s also to do with the loading, ie the longer you are in the presence of an infected person the worse you will be affected. Hence BiL wasn’t as poorly as his wife as his contact time was shorter.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 20.05.21 07:02 UTC
Sadly I have anti vaxxers in my family, including.my 87 year old Dad, brothers 56, 50, 49, refusing to have theirs, and my 36 year old suster undecided, even though her husband had his on Saturday.

I had my second yesterday, Son in law his first, and daughter gets her first next week.
- By Jodi Date 20.05.21 08:33 UTC Upvotes 2
My son and his girlfriend are antivaxxers too which makes me so angry. She is Hungarian and now cannot see her parents in Hungary as she will not be allowed in without being vaccinated, also she has several severe health issues which make her particularly vulnerable. I just cannot understand why they won’t, he comes out with all the anti vaxxers tripe and we end up arguing and I put the phone down in frustration. I refuse to let him anywhere near me as I have enough health issues of my own to deal with and definitely don’t want covid. Couldn’t wait to get my jabs.
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 20.05.21 10:05 UTC
So sorry jodi that must be very frustrating.

Now im thankful shes not an anti vaxxer and does want it but just want to wait until shes not as nervous.
- By Nikita [gb] Date 21.05.21 08:12 UTC
Finally got my second jab on Monday.  Big relief.  I've also got the rapid flow tests now so I can test myself twice a week, with now up to max or nearly max bookings for 121 training each week.

This one got me a little more than the first - sore arm for a bit longer, and I felt rough the next couple of days.  I had my online physio class wednesday night and had to abandon it halfway through!
- By Meekos mom [gb] Date 21.05.21 18:14 UTC
Does anyone know when under 25's will have the jab?

My cousin is looking forward to hers but doesn't know when she will be called.

I think i read somewere its july
