Well done brainless . What a dreadful ordeal that u had .we are so pleased u beat it

It seems to be quite random to an outsider . I had mine at St thomas hospital in London and had expected the Pfizer but i was wrong it was az
Not sure what the definition of a hub is .husbands was Epsom racecourse course and that was az
Gp wasn't involved for either of us
Any which way I am pleased we have had it and hopefully the world can begin to move forward

Cava14Una  I am afraid the trial my friend is on is injections.. but I do hear there are other trials going on of none injectables- inhaled versions and pills- hopefully one of those will succeed.
For your friend- get her to ask her GP if he could prescribe her a single dose of diazepam for each injection- a relaxant that is slightly sedating and makes you very chilled .  She'd need to be escorted to the vaccine centre on it as would be a tad out of it but would possibly make it a doable event .   I am rather hysterical over dentists and have it to take before going as frankly on that stuff you no longer care ! she could ask by email and see if the GP would allow.

I had the AZ vaccine in late January. The GP phoned to tell the date, time & place. The vaccination centre was very well organised. The jab itself was so completely painless that I was tempted to go round again in case it hadn’t really happened! They used a very fine needle.

My only side effect was a slight tenderness in the arm, and possibly the tiredness I experienced that evening. A number of my friends have had the AZ vaccine, most were like me completely fine, only two had “gastric flu” type symptoms, and they’re still up for their second doses.

> Well done brainless . What a dreadful ordeal that u had .we are so pleased u beat it

It was in Jan 1985, and in total I had 3 months off work, as the problem flared up again between hospital and having the tonsils out.
- By Cava14Una Date 24.03.21 14:42 UTC
Thanks weimed. I thought it would still be injections. She's only recently moved up here so doesn't really know anyone apart from me and I don't drive so getting to the vaccination centre would be difficult.
- By chaumsong Date 24.03.21 15:14 UTC

> so getting to the vaccination centre would be difficult

I think vaccination centres all have bus links. Certainly in Edinburgh we've rerouted 3 bus services to serve a mass vaccination centre and the same in West Lothian.
- By Cava14Una Date 24.03.21 18:51 UTC Upvotes 1
To be honest neither of us have been On a bus since February 2020.
I am in the shielding category as is my friend's husband.
- By weimed [gb] Date 24.03.21 19:12 UTC
same here. I had to get a taxi to GP on Monday as cannot walk far at moment due to arthritis flare.  I was not happy about it. I know they say black cabs safe but of course I got the driver with no mask and a broken screen. at least going home the next driver had screen & mask.  I have not been on a bus since last feb either and this was first time in any type of transport.
- By furriefriends Date 24.03.21 19:19 UTC
I think this something that hasn't been sufficiently been considered. There must be a number of people who want the vaccine but actually getting there is a barrier.
I drove and paid congestion charge rather than the simple cheap version by train .then I appreciate i am lucky to beable to have that choice . not everyone has

> To be honest neither of us have been On a bus since February 2020.

Fair enough, the longer you leave it I know the more daunting a prospect it becomes. Buses are pretty safe though, and I think certainly safer than a private hire taxi, a black cab would be better with the partition closed. Everyone should be wearing a mask on the bus and spread out, all windows should be open too, the buses are freezing but you're unlikely to catch covid on them. I would definitely get a bus rather than miss out on a jab.

> I got the driver with no mask and a broken screen.

I think I'd have refused to get in and asked them to send another cab, but I know that's not realistic if you have to get to an appointment on time.
- By weimed [gb] Date 24.03.21 20:08 UTC Upvotes 1
I should have, but had been trying to get a GP appt for 3 weeks, in pain and worried over being late.  I have however invested in some ffp2  masks and made him open the windows.get to do it again Friday as I am lucky enough to have a vaccine appt - decided will book cab really early so if get this one again can turn away- or have time to have argument with driver

A friend of mine was sent an appointment for a hub vaccination, only one problem the walk from the car park/drop off point was over 300 metres from the hall they were using, plus there was a wait time of 15-30 minutes because of the numbers being vaccinated there, no way could my 85 year old friend walk the distance & then stand in line. Her surgery instead sent a team of the nurse practitioner & practice nurse out to visit her & another 49 patients who couldn't access the hub in an afternoon.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 25.03.21 00:31 UTC
My friend has had their first one, they got it now as their classed as vulnerable (we're in your 30s) no issues with them.
my mother has an appointment for hers, it had to be out off as when they called to offer her one of was the day after she had a positive covid test typically. I imagine it will be a while before I get offered it.

I have just had my second Vaccination today. Pfizer. What a well organised set up again, straight in although half an hour early and straight out after the obligatory 15 minutes rest. Back home for a nice cup of tea.
What a relief!
- By compassion Date 25.03.21 19:20 UTC
You can't come in the pub unless you've had the vaccine, talk about being held at ransom
- By furriefriends Date 25.03.21 19:24 UTC Edited 25.03.21 19:29 UTC Upvotes 1
That is just something thats been thrown about. Nothing has been decided as with other things that are under discussion
How would it work given atm few under 50 will be vaccinated and many staff are well under that ?
I think something that was said on TV made a lot of sense.about all.these vague ideas we are getting into a twist about
we need to just wait and see and not react to everything .probably better for our mental health . Unless we can affect decisions  just waiting is likley to be best .
- By JB07 [gb] Date 25.03.21 19:54 UTC
And they have to think of those who cant have a vaccine due to medical reason or allergy so they need an exemption card or something.
- By Gundogs Date 25.03.21 20:19 UTC Upvotes 3
I have just been invited for my vaccine. My mum, brother and partner have allhad their first ones, so this will be a massive relief for everyone after losing my wonderful dad to covid last year.
This whole situation has changed me and I am not sure that I will ever feel comfortable around people again, but at least this is a step closer.
I couldn't be more grateful for this invite.
- By kersfrll [gb] Date 25.03.21 21:41 UTC Upvotes 2
Actually the final sentence is not totally correct.  My husband had his vaccine (Pfizer) at a GP practice.  I had mine (AZ) at a large vaccination centre.  Both of us are tier 4, my husband had a sore arm and mild flu symptoms for a couple of days, I had no adverse reaction at all (did not even feel the vaccination).  Roll on the end of April for the second injection!
- By furriefriends Date 25.03.21 21:44 UTC Upvotes 4
So sorry about your dad gundogs it's so awful .
Totally get how u feel about what covid has done for our behaviours and how long it could take to feel confident around people again.
As u say its a little step closer to some sort of normality
- By lkj [gb] Date 28.03.21 10:55 UTC
Last child has had her jab and is like her sister.   Raging headache and feels absolutely terrible.  So husband had nose bleeds as expected, I still feel tired and change of character.  It has got to be an age thing.
- By furriefriends Date 28.03.21 13:29 UTC
My 28 year old was similar felt dreadful with high temp and headache really flu like for 24 hours then feeling exhausted . Now a few days in she is right as rain . As she said didn't enjoy that but better than covid
- By masajackrussell [gb] Date 28.03.21 13:36 UTC
I saw a news article the other day that said it seems the younger generation who are less at risk of severe covid complications seem to be suffering worse side effects from the vaccine than the older generation who are higher risk from covid.

I'm 48, have underlying conditions and had the Oxford vaccine on Friday.  I had a bit of a head ache on Saturday and then that was it, all good today.
- By Jodi Date 28.03.21 14:01 UTC Upvotes 2
I had my second dose of AZ yesterday, 10 weeks from the first. I wonder if they are trying to get as many second dose people in as they can in case the EU stamp their tiny feet even more.
This time I felt the jab and today my upper arm aches very slightly. Didn’t feel quite right overnight and this morning, nothing worrying, just a bit off. Now feel fine after a nice if slightly damp walk in the village.

Some cab firms including uber are giving free taxi rides to vaccine hubs
- By furriefriends Date 28.03.21 15:01 UTC
Also quite seriously it seems ladies are more affected with side effects to the vaccine than men.though to be eaostrogen related .it then figures that younger women may have worse side effects than older
Apparently a lot more needs to be known about our immune systems but seems men and women do have slightly different ones.  Leading to different illnesses. All very fascinating I think

Just read that the Moderna vaccine should be rolled out in the next month too, that's the main one used in the US alongside Pfizer
- By Tuscia [gb] Date 29.03.21 20:19 UTC
Has anyone done any research as to what is in the vaccines?
- By Ann R Smith Date 29.03.21 20:50 UTC Upvotes 3
The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine contains a live non-replicating chimpanzee adenovirus vector grown in a human cell-line.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, made in vitro, contains messenger RNA (mRNA) for the S protein formulated in lipid nanoparticles.

Both vaccines target the SARS-CoV‑2 spike (S) protein found on the virus surface to create neutralising antibodies.

Does this help ?
- By suejaw Date 29.03.21 21:32 UTC Upvotes 2
The Moderna one is going to be here soon, I heard it was made the same way as Pfizer, is that right?
- By lkj [gb] Date 30.03.21 06:02 UTC
As I have been inoculated with chimpanzee blood maybe reactions are linked to blood groups.
- By furriefriends Date 30.03.21 07:14 UTC Upvotes 1
When I had the az they give u a sheet with the ingredients on to read .they ask if there are any ingredients in the list  that u are knowingly  allergic too.
Unfortunately  I didnt think to take a picture of the list which would have be interesting for later discussion .
U are also given a list of drugs they need to double check u arnt taking as well as being asked

No blood use in the production of the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine, modern vaccine development doesn't involve blood from any source.

Information on AZ vaccine

Had vaccine, best thing ever, sent a note to GP surgery as they had thought through the planning of the events really well, so had to be congratulated. No side effects and even if there was, its better than dying or having that nagging doubt, will I catch it or not ! take the vaccine all day long, greatest thing 2020 has given us.

Well done I couldn't find that list. It must be what was on the a4 sheet that I read when I was vaccinated
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 30.03.21 17:16 UTC
mum had here last Friday and she had a head ake and felt crap for a few days after. But I've heard of you have had covid you tend to get the reactions worse, but don't know if that's true.
- By furriefriends Date 30.03.21 18:09 UTC
I've heard the same . My son hasn't had his yet as only 31  but did have covid so we shall see

Thank you all for your replies. Mom has her first jab booked for 24th of april and shes still having it even though the news has been saying about these rare blood clots in the braun as i know one man had a blood clot on the brain. So shes a little nervous but she knows if she got covid she'd also be a gonna too so picked the lesser of 2 evils
- By furriefriends Date 10.04.21 18:41 UTC
Just had my second about an hour ago. I was lucky as I seem to of had mine early for both first and now second had been bought forward 3 weeks . So all good imo
Im sure they are asking extra questions about blood.clots and your health  this time  and they had the paperwork signed off by a doctor before injection . As far as I know that wasn't done last time so maybe extra care is being taken .they also stressed were u on any blood thinner meds  or allergies to the ingredients as before .if no they seemed happy to go ahead .  That was az
- By Jodi Date 10.04.21 18:57 UTC
My husband had his second one this morning, only a 9 week gap from the first. He was asked about blood thinning meds, one person said they were on low dose aspirin and was told to hold the dressing tightly to his arm to stop excess bleeding whilst the nurse did the other jabs. I had my second one two weeks ago and they asked then about blood thinning meds.
My husband also told me that there was an elderly lady well into her 80’s who said she had never had a vaccination before in her entire life, but felt this one was absolutely necessary. Good for her.
- By furriefriends Date 10.04.21 19:01 UTC
Re blood thinners that what they said to me would happen if it applied to me.it doesn't but nice to know information is the same throughout
Not sure what they do if u say u have suffered clots though
Surprised the lady had not had any before but yes great she had decide this one was important for her to have

really pleased for her.  I know its a worry when you hear stuff but its worth pointing out one of the main ways covid kills is it gives you blood clots.  Any women who has every used hormone contraceptive was at a far higher risk of blood clots then the vaccine too.
My husband has had DVT clots in the past and we know with him if he caught covid it would almost certainly provoke more of them- he was very keen to have the vaccine and was fine.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 11.04.21 07:08 UTC
I had my AZ first jab the day all the negative news was out, but I still went ahead.

Just waiting to be called up for 2nd dose, they told me would be May.
