Does anyone know what the Kennel Club’s affix is for 2021 please? The one given to those who don’t have a kennel name to register their pups with?

Thanks x

Soz masa: You either have paid for a kennel club affix or you don't have one. Those who don't  have to apply with their chosen name & then pay an annual fee to retain it if accepted.

No Hoggie. The Kennel Club have their own affix that can be added to litters registered by breeders that don’t have their own. It changes every year. Last years was Kenxtwen I believe. I am looking for this years one.

There is an entire list on this forum with all up to 2020.

So why do do some of us pay for their affix?  Goodness me, need to get together on all these useful bits of info!

We pay for our own affixes that identify our kennel. A bit like people pay for an email address that ends in their company name rather than gmail or something else generic.

There will be a ridiculous amount of pups with the kennel club affix for a certain year.

well there's a new learning for me - thanks...

If you only use the KC affix you could register 1 litter (or however many) per year for 3/4/5 etc years and every year it would be a different affix so no-one would be able to look at the name and think 'ah yes, that is 'whoever'

tatty-ead:  oh I see...so what is the benefit ?  surely you would want people to recognise your line?  or is there some underlying reason not to? If you are transparent, I'm struggling to understand why you wouldn't want your own affix...

Some people don’t want to pay for it. Some people aren’t bothered. Some people may be hiding things. Less traceability means less public comeback if problems maybe.

The KC affix is used when the breeder can't even be bothered to name the pups.

You don't have to use an affix at all, just have to give a name of at least 2 words.

Can you choose to use it even if you want to choose the rest of the name brainless?

Yes you can.  It's an option on the form at registration.  Though why someone breeding anything other than one single litter ever wouldn't choose to have their own affix is beyond me.

My friend has a couple of Paps with Ken- affixes. I’m not sure why the breeder didn’t have their own kennel name.

I wouldn’t call myself an expert but I’m familiar with the well-known pap kennels and I admit it took me an embarrassingly long time to work out the reason why their names didn’t look familiar!

I always imagined the Kennel Club names were most often used by people who had only very occasional litters, or for accidental litters or something. Maybe it’s not worth the bother if you aren’t thinking about taking your lines forward, or something. I’m probably wrong, but that’s how I thought it was used.

I suppose it’s also useful to give “serious” breeders more chance of obtaining the kennel name they want when they apply for one. If the KC asked everyone registering their odd accidental litter to register a name, it would get harder and harder to make up something that hadn’t been taken!

Thanks Huga. Never looked at that bit!

It would appear that there can be an overlap of affix in any given year.

2019: KENXTWEN and KENYNTEN

2020: KENYNTEN and KENTWONE

2021: KENTWONE and ?

How does that work? Is there an explanation for when it's used????

There was a well known Champion in our breed Kensix Trojan who was bred before his breeder opted to have an affix.

I would suggest KENRONA

And we'll never forget what year they were born.
