New stem cell therapy in dogs - a breakthrough in veterinary medicine.

Scientists have developed a novel method to induce stem cell generation from the blood samples of dogs. Through this technique, the scientists hope to advance regenerative therapies in veterinary medicine. This would mean that, in the near future, veterinarians might be able to reverse conditions in dogs that were previously thought incurable.

I dont know what the difference is in this procedure but .my cat had 3 lots of stem cell therapy via fitzpatrick .it was the first cat they had done it for.
She has arthritis and the therapy has  are quite a difference. Its not a cure but definitely has improved her quality of.life.
They have also given it to dogs with success and I belive its is being used in Australia. Fp is one of a very few vets here who have the equipment and knowledge to use it
. I have some papers   on it that the vet gave me for reference. Not pamphlets but peer reviewed info which shows the positive results on dogs

There are currently 2 ways of doing stem cells in pets. 1 where the animal goes under a GA and they take the fat cells from the abdo area abs culture stem cells which is then under a GA put into the area needed.
The other way is taking blood and culturing stem cells with juvenile fat cells from another animal of the same species. Its injected back into the animal where needed, no need for a GA.  They use the juvenile cells because they don't have the same memory as say using a dogs own ones which are likely to be much older.

Both ways are interesting and wondering if there are any papers out there to say whether one way is better than the other?

Lotus stem cell therapy was the first u describe.
I will look at the paperwork I have and see if there are references that .ay compare the 2 if it wasn't to early for the second way.
One point that we did find was that as lotus is an elderly cat ,15 at the time it took far longer than they expected to grow the cells to a suitable point to  put back
The only reason they could suggest was her age slowed growth . They didn't have any specific data particularly for cats

Thanks for the info. A friend of mine is having stem cell therapy for damage to her hip bones. It's very interesting to hear of its use on animals.
