Hi,
This is TOTALLY my fault but my pup has had his second Lepto2 injection way too early and I could cry.
I miss read the details snd it turnes out he had the first one at 7 weeks with the breeder then he had his second at 8 weeks and 6 days with my vet as i made a stupid mistake.
I am literally sat here crying and shaking. I have called vet and waiting on call back.
Will he be ok? Hes a big boy at 6.2kg already
To add; hes had 2 meals since we have been home and is weeing/pooing/drinking.
Just sleepy.
Any advice appreciated- im never going to forgive myself.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the leptospirosis but I would be concerned about the core vaccines as it is possible that maternal antibodies will have got in the way of the vaccine. I wouldn't have any more injections but I would consider titer testing at 16 weeks to make sure that the core vaccines have worked. Don't be too hard on yourself. The breeder gave the first too early and that is what has thrown you.

First breathe ! When did he have the second vaccine?
Its more than likley that all will be well
U say he is eating etc as normal ? But maybe sleepy.
Keep a very close eye on him and as u have done tell the vet .if they or you are at all.worried then they can see him again and check him over
Totally guessing but if they are concerned about his behaviour likley hood is they will give him fluids to keep him hydrated while his body works through it unless he develops an allergic reaction then u need to move very fast but that usually happens quite quickly after a vaccine

Thanks both.
First dose was at 7 weeks by breeder. Second dose was today at 10.20am hes had his 11 & 3 feeds as usual. Toileting etc all normal. He just seems very sleepy but i know thats also usual after jabs.

That's sounds good .

He'll probably be absolutely fine, but the lepto 2 is normally given with the DHP so he'll need all the vaccines again preferably when he's 12 weeks old. His initial vaccinations have been given so young that there is a strong chance they won't 'take' due to maternal antibodies.

I don't understand the problem. One dose at 7 weeks and one dose at just
one day short of 9 weeks. Two weeks in between doses is what's always been done for my dogs with Lepto 2, although usually at 8 and 10 weeks. In fact I've just had four pups done today. I've only looked on one manufacturer's info but for Nobivac is says first dose can be given at 6 weeks and the second should be 2-4 weeks later.

That was my thought if it was Nobivac L2 but if I post certain things relating to anything medical, I'm crucified!
so for what it's worth I totally agree with you as a breeder of over 100 puppies in 3 years.

(head on the block again!)

It was noviback. Thank you thank you thank you.
I think i was just being super paranoid and feel so responsible as like its so unlike me.

What! I think that the 'idiot' receptionist should be reported. Receptionists shouldn't be giving advice to any degree! (not qualified)
Anyway, I would follow your Vet's advice re vaccination ongoing....enjoy your newbie and chill!!!

I am sorry the receptionist said what !!!
That just awful , I would have to mention that to the vet its totally not acceptable

Totally. Think i will be able to relax a little better now. We sadly lost our beloved Basset Hound at only 17 months last year and i think it has made me ultra paranoid!

Sorry to hear that....
Loss is always very hard but the lovely memories will never be lost.
Hopefully your little one now will fill a bit of that gap and help you move on X

I thought this. The vet thinks its very, very unlikely but we can have a test to check apparently.

That's good . Hopefully he will have a little word in her shell like about her position and tact
I can understand your paranoia given u lost one so young . Thats very sad

I would ask for a titre test to establish immunity to the core diseases. This won't include lepto as you can't titre for that but will tell u if mother immunity has stopped the core vaccines from working.
If u have got immunity u won't need to start the whole lot again .excluding lepto

Blimey, talk about giving you a scare!! Here is the info, click on "Clinical particulars".
https://www.noahcompendium.co.uk/?id=-455483 It also states
No particular symptoms at double dose (see section “ Adverse reactions”).

That's TOTALLY understandable. What was wrong with your BH? Did you buy another? So sorry for your previous loss. Last year wasn't a good year, for losing Bassets!
As for the 7 week vaccination - for me, that's done too soon. Provided the puppy had mum's colostrum, that gradually drops away from around 5 weeks, until by around 8+ weeks, it's assumed that mum's immunity has gone and the first set of external vax. can be given with a second set 2, or often 3 weeks later. Then boosters should be done 12 months on, followed by a switch to boosters every 3 years, other than Lepto which drops over a 12 month period and needs boostering annually. I don't booster after around 7 years, normally. If puppies don't have mum's first milk for some reason, then yes Parvo and Lepto can be given at around 6 weeks. JMO.
Outrageous for any reception staff to pass comment on medical matters and a breach of the Veterinary Surgeons Act. The receptionist should be told never to do this again. Sadly this sort of behaviour can occur not only at vet practices but also GP practices. Reception staff may pick up a lot of information in situ but they are in no way qualified to offer advice or comment on medical matters to members of the public. If it was a vet nurse who happened to be sitting in reception and took the call then more training needed, I would say.
