Topic Dog Boards / General / Airedale Pups for Sale, £4500 - just wow!

Don't really know what to say, there's an advert up on the pets website - one piccy has 6 pups on show, that's £27,000 just there.

No wonder people are having their loved pets dog-napped / stolen.

Crazy times.

I saw another breed the same, I suppose you can always reduce but can’t ask for more. Personally anyone that desperate has more money than sense but there you go!!

Wonder if the Tax Man will be told ???

Some of these may be scams.

I sometimes wonder if those ridiculously priced Bullies are advertised for those prices in tens of thoudand as a money laundering scheme?

I’ve been reading about a puppy bought for £3500. It had an underbite and the breeder refunded £800. The new owners looked into ways of helping reduce underbite and believe now they have cured it ( I don’t know if that’s feasible or not). The breeder having discovered this is now demanding the £800 back again now that the puppies cured:roll:. It was also discovered that the puppy has only had one descended testicle and will need to have an operation to remove the hidden one. The breeders not bothered

CrashWilliams:> No wonder people are having their loved pets dog-napped / stolen.

Crazy times.

Absolutely and the frightening things is that as long as lockdown/pandemic is in place/present this situation will continue. Many years ago a phrase often used was 'lock up your daughters'
now it's 'lock up your dogs and puppies'. plus anything else that has a resale value. We just have to be vigilant.

Sadly I feel there will be a lot more reports coming to light re badly bred puppies/uncaring, not bothered breeders who have offered no contract to their new owner, probaly
haven't a care about lifelong responsibility for their Litters and only see £££ signs.

(should say that depending on the puppies age, the second testicle could drop - if not by 12 months then the cost of neutering should be paid by the Breeder) IMO

It really is ridiculous and I really can't believe people are paying these prices! I had a couple of chats with some breeders yesterday, both were lovely calls and it was one of them that mentioned that some were being sold - I was expecting to see £2k, was gobsmacked on seeing those prices. Thankfully I'm not in the market right now, couldn't afford that.

tatty-ead:> Wonder if the Tax Man will be told ???

Think we both know the likely answer to this - No...there is no policing of this practice. Having one litter per year is allowed whatever the circumstances of breeding.
However, if you offer KC Insurance with your little Pup, the tax man will know of every sale made and investigate this if it is viewed as a second income. ie employed
elsewhere. claim benefits or tax allowances etc.

Sadly it won't be these one off Breeders who are targetted, it will be those who follow all the rules but don't declare it on their tax returns.

74 Alexandra: > I suppose you can always reduce but can’t ask for more
Your so right which then poses the question of 'do you sell your puppies at 'normal' pricing structure and risk them being sold on at a profit or sell at the 'going rate' to
avoid this happening?

> Personally anyone that desperate has more money than sense but there you go!!

Yip Alexandra and then that for me raises the question of what their longterm plans for your puppy is? Ongoing pricing madness, stud fee charges at male puppy's sexual
maturity. Litters that could be produced from a female puppy. Too scary to comprehend.
Our lovely animals could now be viewed as 'an investment for the future' with no authority in the UK to stop it.

I wonder if it's possible to find out whether those people ASKING these high inflated prices, actually GET that figure for all their puppies in a litter. As it is, small wonder people decide their bitches are a perfect way to make money.

I keep thinking if I'd not had my youngest bitch spayed I could have bred from her a few times and been mortgage free by now.

I used to breed chinchillas (rodents) but stopped as finding good homes was getting more difficult. Finding a buyer wasn't the problem, it was sifting out the idiots. I'd be even worse with puppies and end up getting paranoid about their future.

Knowing my luck, prices would fall as soon as my imaginary litter was born!

come autumn there are going to be thousands of puppies trying to find homes. All those people who paid a fortune for their bitch pup last spring will be trying to recoup their cost and have litters. Will be carnage :(

weimed: > All those people who paid a fortune for their bitch pup last spring will be trying to recoup their cost and have litters. Will be carnage :(

Certainly will and those owners who have 'just lost interest' or 'didn't realise the responsibility' will be just looking to offload at rescue centres. Not looking
forward to it at all and then no doubt there will be totally different questions being asked about rehoming

I'm already seeing people asking close to the £2- 3K prices they paid for their puppy at 8 months when they realise their situation has altered re work and the time available for the puppy. Was a time when a puppy of around 8 months would only be worth hundreds, if that. And the new home was more important than recouping losses. And there's no mention of the older puppy being sold after being neutered - so they go to yet another home to become a breeding machine.

Hi

I posted on here a few weeks ago about the prices of pups. We had met our breeder last year and they told us the litter was going to be £1500 but when it arrived they put the price up to £2500. It was a long hard decision but we decided to stick with them because ultimately we had met them and the dogs.
However today another breeder I was in touch with has emailed to say their litter is £3500 (and she had initially priced them at £3000 and has also upped the price) - we are talking goldrem retriever pups here.
The world has gone mad.... These are not scams as well these are reputable KC breeders.
We were wanting to take a pup from the second breeder £3500 because the dogs health scores were slightly better but the prices have got out of control. I know the KC won’t get involved but surely there needs to be some sort of regulation of this!

Well clearly, IF these greeders are getting their asking price, there is MONEY out there despite all this bleeting on about not being able to afford food for their kids.

I'm still fizzing about a litter of my main breed with people living near here, asking £3000 for non KC registered puppies. I have written to some in the past, but there's no point and nothing that can be done about what's going on, apparently. I have also written to people with bitches of around 2 years, being rehomed for huge prices, suggesting they get them spayed first so they don't end up as breeding machines. But of course, these people simply don't care. Makes me weep for them.

If people will pay then people will continue to charge and dogs are in great demand not always from the right people either .

‘A fool and his money is easily parted’ apparently.

Sadly it's called Market forces.

Ditto bad breeding, if buers accept high prices and low standards, then Greeders will carry on.

Bit of a vicious circle isn’t it. Such a shame.

Just seen white miniature schnauzer on p4h £4500. Yikes!!
- By MamaBas [gb] Date 29.01.21 11:30 UTC
Another thought about these crazy prices. What if the puppy has some defect and has to be returned to breeder - with the breeder having to make a full refund. I'd have been hard pushed to find what I was selling mine for before I retired, let alone upwards of £3K!! But I suppose with that level of income, making the odd refund wouldn't make such a hole
- By masajackrussell [gb] Date 29.01.21 11:34 UTC Upvotes 4
I’m not sure the majority of the breeders selling at these prices would offer the option of returning the pup for a full refund though - most don’t care once they are gone

From my experience, I'm not sure people are aware this an expectation of a good breeder, they're often surprised when I talk about changes in circumstances and the puppy always having a home with me

This could quite possibly be the case yes!
