More than 80 dogs thought to have been stolen have been rescued by police during raids.

The dogs and puppies are said to be worth tens of thousands of pounds, Dyfed-Powys and South Wales (SWP) police forces said. Between 70 and 80 were found in Carmarthenshire and another six in Briton Ferry, at the weekend. On Sunday, Dyfed-Powys Police found dogs and puppies in outbuildings in Carmarthenshire.

Det Insp Barry Kelly said officers visited a property after a pet owner reported on Friday the theft of five bitches and 17 puppies. "On attendance, officers found a number of dogs, some of which have been identified through microchips," he said. "We estimate there to have been 70 to 80 dogs at the property, with the total value reaching tens of thousands of pounds."

I know of one breeder, living in a remote location, who stayed with a litter she had end of last year pretty much 24/7, so concerned she was about theft.   And that wasn't just until they went to their new homes at the 'normal age' (8 - 10 weeks) as she had overseas bookings for some of them so they had to be with her for longer than usual.

Picture on face book (rough count) 40 shown and most of them look to be adult, various breeds but some look like Xs, mostly med / larger size.

Some friends of mine who bred and showed labradors for over 50 years were always very aware of having their dogs stolen. They live where there is only one other house surrounded by fields, ideal for thieves to sneak in. They never left the dogs unattended at any time and in latter years when children had left home, they even holidayed separately. They’ve retired now and only have two dogs who go with them everywhere now.

Given the prices that are being charge for Pups, it's really no surprise that thieves and burglers are moving in to this space - only recently I've been reading about people being 'mugged' for their dogs. A very sad state of affairs.

Apparently the picture used to illustrate this story is a stock image. None of the dogs shown are involved in the case. So sad that people have been poring over the image, trying to identify their lost/stolen pets.

Oh no!  How cruel & thoughtless is that sort of reporting? A pet being lost/stolen will have caused so much heartache and then this being the case is the 'double whammy'! Awful!
