We lost our beautiful 12 1/2 years old Standard Poodle back in July with a very short illness... 10 days to be exact. We adopted her 11 years ago from Battersea Dogs Home.

One day she was a bit off and had a shiver episode so we took her to the vet, blood tests and an xray showed Cancer tumours just about everywhere :-(
there was nothing we could do.. she showed no symptoms until this episode and she died 10 days later. She went to the vet monthly for allergy desensitising injections so was checked regularly.

Our whole world has been shattered... she was our world, such a lovable character and our home has become just a house without her.....

She was our first poodle and was not the healthiest through the years.. but she battled through everything thrown at her and was always a happy playful soul.

We didn't expect to want to adopt so quickly, but life just needs a dog in it.. we have registered with the usual poodle rescues and others with hopes of finding a dog in need of a home... and we wait.....!

I miss her so much :-(

I am sure this time you would prefer to have a pup with the odds stacked in favour of a healthy life.

You should research a breeder that fully health tests their breeding stock with available Clinical and DNA tests for all breed specific inherited issues.

To be honest it is likely if you find a good breeder through the Breed Club it is.likely that you will be waiting 6 - 9 months before bringing a puppy home.

If a bitch came in season today it would be nearly 4 months before pups would be minimum homing age.

The sooner you contact a reputable breeder the more likely you will get on a waiting list.

At the moment we are not looking at getting a puppy, but adopting a dog that requires a home.

If all else fails and we cannot find an adoption then we would go down the path of buying a puppy and
have already been in contact with a very reputable breeder for help on both rehoming and purchasing.

Sometimes breeders have dogs they bred back for rehoming due to owner change of circumstances.

Best of both worlds then.
