Health / Other than Malseb shampoo for staphylococcus intermedius
I was at my vets this morning with my Rottie who has staphylococcus intermedius, (and a/b resistant). I've been told to bath her in an antibacterial shampoo, but not Hibiscrub. My vet mentioned Malaseb, and another shampoo (which sadly I can't remember the name off), but neglected to tell me when I was there that Malaseb (at least) is prescription only. I have messaged my vet but haven't had a reply yet, (and vets is an hour round trip). I've tried a Google search but haven't found anything else, and thought you good people might know.
If your vet can send you a prescription (email? fax? or even in the post) then you should be able to buy prescription products online from a vet pharmacy often much cheaper too. Give your vet a call and ask for them to send you a prescription.

As far as I'm aware, and I have been there with Malaseb, that's for the yeast condition - Malassezia. When we had a staph infection in the chins of young puppies in a litter, my Canadian vet (out there) advised me to use neet Johnson Baby Shampoo on a Q-stick. That worked like a treat.
Malaseb never worked well for our occasional skin conditions - way too harsh and the poor hound ended up with an even worse looking red skin. I found DermOpt far better.

I belive malesab is antifungal and antibacterial so would cover both staphylococcus and malessezia.
Sadly my vet charges £19 for a private prescription, with no repeats. Just for info the other non prescription shampoo is Coatex Medicated
Thank you for your reply. I've managed to find out the name of the other shampoo it's Coatex Medicated, and non prescription
