Our newest Border Terrier is 4 months old. 3rd generation from Crufts Best of Breed. We’ve been told he is a good specimen, very astute and easy to train.

Owned border terriers for 30+ years and have become interested in competitions.

Looking for a trainer close to Perth, Scotland who can give advice.

What sort of competitions are you interested in? Breed showing? Agility? Obedience?

If it’s showing you’re looking to get started in, might be worth contacting Perthshire Canine Club. They hold two open shows a year, and I believe hold weekly ringcraft classes. Obviously this is all on hold due to Covid, but still with making a few enquiries to get some helpful info.
Perth, Tayside and Fife are pretty well off for limit and open shows, with quite a few active clubs in the area.
Might be worth contacting Ewan Castel, secretary of Cupar, St Andrews and District Canine Society. They also run regular shows/ training in Cupar. Ewan has borders and I believe is treasurer of the Border Terrier Club. He’d certainly be a good one for breed specific presentation tips.

If you’ve ever watched an agility competition, you know it’s basically a canine obstacle course. The dog must run through tunnels, leap over jumps, and weave through poles. But the dog isn’t working alone – this is a sport of exquisite teamwork. A successful run requires taking each obstacle in a certain order, and the dog relies on his handler to tell him what that is. That makes dog agility an exciting celebration of canine athleticism and the dog-human bond.

All dogs breed need some degree of exercise, but most will thrive with extra stimulation.  "preparation is a must" "dog quiz and dog test also is a must" that's what I can say when it comes of competition.

Maybe Gillsley could let the forum know what kind of competitions they mean, it will make answering the question easier
