Topic Dog Boards / General / rescue transport in lockdown

I know someone posted last lockdown about it being ok to collect your new pup or rescue, but I can't find anything official to that effect, can anyone link to something I could print out in case I'm stopped on a rescue transport run that I'm doing this weekend?

On the Scottish government publications website (gov.scot/publications /coronavirus- stay at home guidance) there is a list of “reasonable excuses to go out” and it states” for essential animal welfare reasons such as exercising or feeding a horse or going to a vet”.
I’d think you’d be okay

Scroll down and there is a paragraph referring to animal.welfare

How about travel to get a bitch mated?

Id not have thought that would be considered a reasonable excuses to travel or come under animal welfare.
I know licenced breeders were allowed to deliver pups last time so perhaps if your a business you could possibly.

Yes that’s what I thought. It was a hypothetical question, (and granted not on an appropriate thread for which I apologise) but I get the impression that some are risking it.

Trouble with this guidance it isnt always specific enough so people have differing opinions. Especially if it's something they want to do its amazing what can be justified .hmmm.

Mad isn't it. I don't personally think traveling to mate a bitch is essential enough. Dropping off or collecting puppies/rescues etc yes as that is for the welfare of the dog. I think DEFRA have even said this is allowed from memory.

I know people are using courier services or AI if they can't travel or its not local enough to be deemed 'local'.

Thanks Garbo and FF, animal welfare is a bit ambiguous isn't it, but I've also printed out a bit from the KC facebook page saying you can collect puppies, fingers crossed I don't get fined trying to do a good deed

A maiden bitch I am hoping for a pup from is already 4 years old, so skipping a season would not be wise.

Unusually for us the chosen stud is in the same County.

Both owners are allowed to travel for excersise, and meet one person outdoors. So this is how the handover can be accomplished.

The second bit h I am waiting on is due in season in May, and distance to Stud is only 60+ miles. In this case I pray restrictions will have eased.
