Does anyone have any experience of this please?
my puppy is 10 weeks old and this was diagnosed at the vet this morning at second vaccinations. It was missed by another vet at the first vaccination (I won't get into why I used a different vet!) and the breeder had the puppy microchipped and it wasn't noticed by their vet either. Apparently it's not uncommon for it to be missed at first.
The vet has recommended surgery ASAP to remove the lower canines and having looked at some information from a local dental specialist vet, it seems this will give the adult teeth the best chance of growing normally. It's obviously rather upsetting to have to consider surgery in such a young puppy.
If anyone has experience of this and can share, I'd appreciate it. Thankyou!
Thankyou. I wasn't actually aware the parents shouldn't be bred from again if not affected due to it being recessive, although I assumed the same mating shouldn't happen again. Is there a genetic test for it? (I'm not the breeder, so it doesn't affect me, although and I had hoped to show and possibly breed and now it seems this may have gone out of the window, the latter especially)
I'm waiting for the vet to call back, but I am going to ask about a specialist referral as I understand the way the surgery is carried out can affect how the adult teeth come through.
