Topic Dog Boards / General / They want to return puppy ??????
- By donnamwilliams1 [gb] Date 06.03.03 19:37 UTC
Hi all,

Some advice please......a couple bought a pup yesterday at 5pm (18 weeks old) I've just have them ranting & raving on the phone wanting to return the pup saying 'it is a lovely pup BUT it weed in the house, it cried all night and it only ate a bit...you told me it was house trained and I want my money back - I drove 4 hours to pick the pup up and I'm not happy!!!!!'

OK, I've told her I'll give her money back, I know it's a long way to travel but at the end of the day what do you expect from a new puppy ??? to me it's quite a normal settling in process - I did tell her we were still house training the dogs and she's made me feel as though I'm a terrible breeded ??? she did say thet she's used to older dogs and should have thought it through although I did explain all the 'pupp' thing to her before she took him and I told her exacly what to expect - she was happy to go through all of that - until now only one day later

I'm not happy.....what would you all do ? (mind you, it's probably for the best - if she doesn't have the patience then the pup is better off with me)

It is better to find out now and get the pup back instead of them just giving the pup to anyone. Here they would be put on a list and would not get a puppy from anyone I knew. I had a list of names I got from my breeders who not to sell to and why. That list I past on as well to other people I knew who were breeding. In the long run it is totally up to that individual if they want to sell them a pup.

Sorry about your experience Donna - I would want to get that puppy back PDQ because it sure as heck sounds as if the people who have it now certainly shouldn't have it! I know I've put all my people through quite a grilling before they even came to see the puppies, let alone walk away with one - but however clever you think you are with checking people out, there is always someone who can pull the wool over your eyes - and it seems that these people have pulled it over yours!

Hope the puppy is none the worse for its experience!

Regards

Hi Donna

Get the pup back as soon as you can. If they can't cope for the first few hours they don't deserve it and could well end up damaging it.

Christine

PS Tip. Never say that a dog is house trained as whilst it may be with you and your routine even an adult has to learn its way around in a strange place and if the owners are not attentive "accidents" will happen.

Get in your car and pick that puppy up NOW donna. They obviously do not have a clue about the needs of a puppy and for your own peace of mind you should get it back & refund them their money. Its their loss that they had to drive 4 hours to collect the pup & they shouldn't expect any further monies back other than the price paid.

What on earth did these people expect from an 18 wk old pup in a new home?

You're right Donna, the pup is better off with you.

Get your pup back ! They did no research on puppies /dogs if they could say all that ..if that is just the first day and they obviously can not handle it..what will they say or do later on ???There are more deserving families out there who will adore your pup along with all the wees and poos as well :)
- By melmel [gb] Date 07.03.03 09:52 UTC
They should owe you money for distressing the poor puppy's life...just a question when they came to see the pup how did they appear ...were they then lying to you or totally naive ????

What absolute idiots!

Hope all works out...that poor little puppy. This really upset me!

All new owners should expect this for at least a couple of weeks
not a couple of hours!

They need reporting to the men in white coats never mind the RSPCA!
- By sharie [gb] Date 07.03.03 16:06 UTC
Persnally I would give them their money back less a deposit. If they didnt give you a deposit you want any expenses incurred in getting the puppy back.
It isnt your fault they bought a puppy and didnt realise the work involved.

It really bugs me when people think you are Argos and will give them their money back because they tried it and didnt like it!!

Some people just havent a brain and shouldnt be let loose!

Good Luck

Poor little pup, get it back asap! I use a contract with my pups that says absolutely no refunds, but in this case it might have meant that the people would try to sell the pup off to recoup their monies. It is so tricky with people. I mean, not to mention the pups well fair, but also the time and expense and worry it puts on you. With my contract that I make sure they read and sign, I hope it makes them realize that buying a pup is a serious commitment and that they can't just "try it out".
Get the baby back NOW!

What on earth did they expect ?
Some idiots forget pups are just like babies - did they not read up on what to expect ??
I remember the night before getting pup and i was worrying about poor pup being away from his mum and the rest of the litter and spoke to the breeder on how to settle him in , in the easiest way for him etc . I didnt even expect him not to "dirty" in the house . That was the least of my worries as i was just so concerned about him feeling all unsettled

I find it totally incredible .
I would definately take the pup back and then give them a good piece of my mind !!!

Hi
Stupid people !!! I'd say to them that you will take the puppy back, and refund them whatever you get from re homing the pup, but in the mean time you have food and potential vet bils to take in to account and also the general time spent taking care of the pup, socialising etc.
If they really won't go for that, just give them the money back and get your puppy back home.Like another poster said ( sorry can't remember who it was ) us breeders are not Argos etc.
I also do a contract which says no refunds unless the pup is found to have a serious health problem during the first few weeks. If the pup is returned due to the new owners not coping etc then I will refund whatever is gained from re homing, less expenses.

speachless absolutely speachless...

glad pup is safe back with you.. as for those people they dont ever deserve the pleasure of an animals company again

sorry mad as hell here
- By melmel [gb] Date 09.03.03 10:57 UTC
the issues raised in another post..if you say no refund then these silly people are going to try to sell the dog themselves to get their money back aren't they ?So it puts a breeder in a tough spot ?Its a pity there is no list one can put an x against their names for other breeders to check so they will never get a pup from another breeder at least...what's to stop them going for another pup in a couple months after they 'forget' what this one did!?
- By sam Date 09.03.03 11:02 UTC
I am surprised at the number of people who say things like 'no refunds unless its ill' or 'tell them you will give them back a part refund but you need the rest to feed the pup' etcetc. I am sorry, but I will always give someone a full refund...all I care about is getting my puppy/dog back and ensuring it doesn't end up with someone else.
- By dollface Date 09.03.03 14:46 UTC
I would go and collect the pup, and keep the amount u take to hold a pup that part should be nonrefundable but the rest should be givin back.

I sold a pup a while back and found out in the paper after 1 month of having him that they were selling it, I called them and told her I'll call her back that evening to buy him back (infull), well she went ahead anyhow and sold him . Now I have no idea where he is and how he is doing. He was a beautifully marked pup. She also sold him for less. Some people

Only problem is Sam, is when you make it so easy for people to "try" out a puppy, what's to stop them form pulling the same on another breeder and poor puppy? They need to realize the seriousness of the situation that they got themselves into.

Refund them their money, less your petrol fees and then contact the breed club to warn them. Good luck. Hope they havent given the poor little soul a roasting for doing what puppies do best!
- By crazicrest [gb] Date 11.03.03 08:09 UTC
What has happened? Has the situation resolved? I'm worried about the poor little pup he needs to be rescued from those ignorant people.
- By Lulu [gb] Date 11.03.03 14:32 UTC
Donna says she has picked the puppy up. Good for her. It sounds like it could have been a very unhappy puppy or worse. People need to read and read about the dog they are thinking of getting and never buy one on a whim. They have to realise a puppy can sometimes be like having a baby in the house. You have to do everything for them and provide everything for them. I'm sure all dog lovers agree that the time you put in is well worth it for all the love they give you back. I hope Donna find a loving home for this little one as I think he may well have had a lucky escape.

Hi All

Thank you, I went straight out to get my baby back.....he's home, they didn't want to gove him back when I got there but I told them I canot leave my baby in an inpatient home after all I explained in extreme detail what it would be like to have a pup - he's home and they have all their money back and he's staying home

Thanks again
Donna
