Hi.  I signed up to Champdogs to find a sister for our 6 year old Goldie.  I have messages a breeder to say I was interested in a puppy who, I was notified, is due in December.  Do the breeders then contact you directly?  This is the first time I have used a site like this and am unsure of the process.  All help gratefully received.  Thanks Carol

If you have messaged a breeder, yes they should then reply BUT I suspect yours will be amoung many they will receive. Obviously they cant guarantee what sex puppies will be available until born.

Thank you Lexy.  I think we were very lucky 6 years ago when we found Holly. We don’t show or want to breed, live in beautiful rural Lancashire and have an outdoors life and would love another Goldie to join us.  Can’t believe how difficult it is now.

Have you contacted Holly's breeder?

I know that I would always give preference to a good previous owner of a dog I bred for my waiting list, and want to help them locate a pup with a fellow breeder if I can't

When we were actively breeding, I kept a book of prospective new owners but not until I had a litter on the ground, would I get back to them.  As we only bred for our next generation, by the time I did get back to those in my book, many had gone elsewhere, even to another breed!   It was a touch frustrating, but my approach to that was they didn't really want one of mine!!    I also urged people who were coming to view, not to come from another kennel to mine, just in case of infection!   This is even more relevant these days (back then it was more bringing something into my hounds - these days it's people to people too

Back when I was looking for another Basset, I started to realise what it was like on the other side of things - being a buyer, not a seller.   And it's even worse these days!
