Is it cruel to leave your dog home alone for 6 hours while you go to work??or is it just what they get used to..

I think it depends on a lot of things: age of dog, how much stimulation is provided at the times when you are there, what conditions the dog is left in, whether the dog has toys to play with and whether the dog receives a walk to tire him out before and after being left. If all those conditions are right then I don't think its cruel...
Hope this helps

There are days when we have to leave our lab at home for six hours, but like Sammie said, we make sure that he's gotten exercise before we go and that he has bones around for him to chew. I think that he spends most of his time sleeping. We also make sure that we have some dedicated, undivided attention time for him when we get home. I think that they get used to it, especially if it's at the same time every day. Even for a healthy, young active lab, ours still spends a great deal of time napping!

HI
i have to leave sam for long hours myself, but he has a hour run before i go and when i get back he has another 1 1/2 hrs, also i make sure he has a selection of bones, his toys and the run of the house,i even leave the tv on for him, it may not be ideal but i have never had any problems and when i come in he has my attention all eveing.as he had spent many months in a kennal i think having a nice warm home is better than a cold kennal
