Hi all
Have a litter of 5.5 week old havanese
Mum and das have black noses and pads and passed the judge verification for breeding
4 of the pups have black noses, lips and pads
But the little one has liver coloured nose, pads and lips /eye lids

The little one won’t ever be bred anyway because she was the runt but I just wonder if her nose will go black ?..

I do not believe there are any chocolate havanese in the family to account For the Bb gene , so is she just poorly pigmented?

Thanks!

I think Havenese have multiple colour genes a bit like the Lhasa Apso, which can dramatically change colour as they mature.

Found this for you

Yes they do, but normally their pigment is in by now..
and the fact that 4 out of 5 have already had black noses for at least 2 weeks made me wonder for the little one

Havanais_eli:  Puppy Pigment.  In my experience if Puppies nose & pad colouring hasn't changed during their first 6 weeks it is unlikely to.  Doesn't mean they are inadequate in any way as little pets, just that they wouldn't make breed standard which you have already confirmed and one of the reasons you won't breed from her.  She is one of your home bred and will always be special to you anyway  X

Wouldn't worry too much, as long as the new owners love him/her doesn't matter. I had a white & black BC gorgeous boy actual colour doesn't affect health as opposed to certain colour patterns.

Are you keeping a puppy? I understand they can be an addictive breed :wink::wink:

She is my favourite anyway because she is so little and cute and beautiful with green eyes
Im keeping her as you know, and I’ll never breed her for her own safety
Maybe I’ll just need to pay attention to the sunscreen in summer :-)
But she will always be my little angel whatever her nose colour

If the pigment is brown then it won't change and I imagine it is a recessive gene, bb or dilute? I don't know a lot about it but it can happen and of course you could have had the gene carried unseen for many generations.

Where there is little black pigment on the nose in puppies with a lot of white markings, it's not unusual to have them fill in as late as 12-13 weeks. But the spots of colour are still black. (Or in other words: when you have sold the pup as not show quality the nose will fill in lol!)

If the eyes are green that sounds a lot like bb liver/chocolate to me.

The havanese can have legitimate brown noses but I think only as a chocolate havanese, which I don’t think she can be because there aren’t any in her line
She was pink at birth and it’s turned liver so I’m pretty sure it’s staying that way
Her hair isn’t white, she is apricot /honey
Funny how she is a mirror image of the biggest one who has all her teeth and black everything...
it’s been a mixed bag! Dad is apricot and mum is cream
The babies are , black, brindle, brown and two apricot
Where the black one came from I have no idea
But she has got a little white beard like she permanently has a milk moustache

As a retired breeder of Coton de Tuléar ( a bichon, like the havanese) I can say with assurance that a liver-colored nose at the age of 5.5  weeks is definitely not finished or even necessarily indicative of the color it will eventually have.  I have seen liver-colored noses simply darken with age, and by the age of 10 weeks no longer liver-colored but simply black.
