My sheltie Grace is on heart medication for a grade 3 heart murmur and she started the medication a couple of weeks ago. The vet saw her last week and was pleased with her progress. Her cough is much better and she is perkier. However, the diuretics are causing concern in the household as she is weeing a lot, she has always been a clean dog but I think she is unable to control her bladder in the way did before the meds, particularly at night. In the day I let her into the garden quite frequently so not such a problem. So I was wondering about dog nappies (my husband looked at me as if were mad) for her to wear at night so hopefully preventing the puddles in the morning. Has anyone resorted to these? There seem to be a huge array on sale. If any of you have used dog nappies (or diapers in the US!) I would be interested in your comments.
Many thanksx

I would see if the drugs could be reduced a little - or given at a different time of day -ie morning so less active bladder at night.
Alternately maybe buy a large tray and pop puppy pee pads in it for at night so that when she needs to go in a hurry there is an acceptable place for her to do so.
I had a weimaraner bitch with spay incontinence and did use pants with pads for when we had to visit people indoors but I would never leave them on a dog as just like babies they can get really bad nappy rash which would be terrible painful. At home just made good use of mopp(hard floors) and used washable bedding.

I have used pampers on a small dog with a hole cut out for the tail.

Never used them but my sister did for her oldie due to cushings.
She purchased purpose dog nappies for this, she didn't wear them all the time, I think overnight like you plan to.
Equafleece sell them. You put a sanitary towel inside them.
I have talked to my vet about Grace who says that it is a bit of incontinence made worse by the heart meds. He has suggested leaving off one of the diuretics and I will but it is what it is. She is not a young dog ( I rescued her last year) but is probably 10/11.) I have bought some dog nappies in Pets at Home (Large) and she has one on now. I think although it is a large size it's not large enough for Grace as she has such a big coat and tail. However on the plus side she is not objecting to it - I will buy some more in a larger sizex

I have reduced the Furosemide dose on the vet's advice (the diuretic) and now just give Grace half a tablet in the morning. This however will make you smile: I put the nappy on Grace for the first time the night before last but about 2.45 am I heard her barking in the kitchen. I went downstairs to find the nappy (dry) on the floor and Grace sitting by the back door asking to go out!!! Result? Well maybe - last night no nappy and all dry .... so I am hopeful that things are improving!
