There will likely be a population explosion in the winning breed as puppy farmers jump on the bandwagon :( , so I hope nothing wins it!!

I think the after Crufts must have effects, and the corresponding upsurge in production by puppy farmers is worst in the already popular exploited breeds.

With a lesser known breed, one would hope that by the time the puppy farmers get hold of potential breeding stock, then the time has passed, especially if it is a numerically small breed with a core of very responsible breeders who are ultra careful about placement in the 12 months following a big win.

There are of course some rare breeds that are already exploited out of fashion,or due to advertising :( :(

If the Aussie won, I bet the number of puppy faremed Aussies wouldn't go up so much as more Borders of stocky build would be sold/bought as the next best thing!

Better leave it to a Dandie Dinmont then, notoriously difficult to breed the exploiters would have to give it a miss and we could all enjoy the delight of seeing this fantastic breed getting the recognition it deserves hurrah hurrah :D

Does anyone know if a Border Collie has ever won it?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 06.03.03 17:10 UTC
No one hasn't....but then they've only quite recently been recognised, haven't they?

As an Aussie owner, and novice breeder, maybe I am naive enough to hope that we can keep the puppy farmers out of our dogs - we are all (I think) using similar sale contracts, stipulating hip and eye checks made known to the breeder before breeding restrictions are lifted off KC registration etc - so let's keep our fingers crossed for the Big Aussie!!!
