Some interesting reading here.

Thanks Rozzie, that’s going to keep me amused for a while!

Looking at papillons I was surprised to see links to only two other breeds - pug and griffon bruxellois.

They were bred from small spaniels which I’d expect to have influenced other breeds too, and probably there’s some spitz in there that contributed the tail carriage.

I guess they suffer from the same problem as dachshunds, being a very old breed, so the older connections don’t show up. Fascinating!

This was very fascinating , didn't expect Rotties to have so much black russian terrier in them.

And i looked at berners as they have always reminded me of saint bernards and go and behold they have saint bernard in them.

How accurate is this do you think?
- By CaroleC [gb] Date 25.10.20 13:58 UTC
Hmm. If I'm using this correctly, there is no Löwchen and no King Charles Spaniel!

Er Russian Black Terriers are a very recent breed devoloped by the Russian Army as a working dog.

Breeds used include Giant Schnauzer, Airedale Terrier, Rottweiler, Newfoundland, Caucasian Shepherd Dog and others

Rottweilers predate RBT & there is no RBT in the Rottweiler make up, it's the other way round

Wait so i think im looking at this wrong so when i click on the rottie the other breeds are not breeds that created the rottie there breeds that have rottie in them?

Im getting confused , i thought this was telling us what breeds helped create other breeds.

I wanted to know who created the rottie and who created the bernese mountain dog.

Hm to the Lhasa Apso which is a Tibetan native breed is related to the Pug which is a Chinese breed.

The Chinese breed related to the Lhasa Apso is the Shih Tzu, which is a mix of Pekingese & Lhasa Apso not Pug

Rottweil is a German town where the breed originated & was bred as a butcher's dog

The Bernese Mountain dog is one of 4 native Swiss breeds that are classed as Sennenhund(literal translation is Pasture Dog) that developed as farm dogs, they go back to dogs the Romans brought to Switzerland.

But what breeds actually created these breeds as ive read Rottweilers helped create the bernese and im not sure if that is true.

No surprise both corgi breeds are closely related but we are older than the other breeds listed, corgi s are listed in the doomsday book of 1086 and are know in Welsh folklore before that
- By Ann R Smith Date 25.10.20 15:28 UTC
You are going back 100s of years before there were any specific breeds this applies to all breeds.

For example there are 4 types of Sennenhund all bred to do similar jobs-ie farm dogs that work cattle etc on the farm & in the pastures hence the name Senne~Pasture, hund~German for dog.

The Rottweiler is descended from the mastiff type dogs the Romans took with them as the fought their way across Europe.

The use of breed names only happened in the last 4/500 years.

The word spaniel comes from the French word espaigneul~meaning Spanish

And Dalmatians have no relatives, apparently, which we know is rubbish! Bull terriers are known to have had some Dalmatian in the mix, and yet that's not on the BT link.
- By MamaBas [gb] Date 25.10.20 17:39 UTC
I've only just skimmed through all that but what about Basset Hounds, Beagles and the other scent hounds?   Except I know about the St.Hubertus hounds and Bloodhounds etc.

They believe the Rott goes back at some point to the Bernese as you can get longcoats and throw back white markings.
There is no RBT in a Rott. I think what the article should be saying is that these breeds haven't made up say the Rottweiler but they contain similar DNA. As Ann said the RBT is a very new breed in comparison.

Thanks RR, wish someone would work out how to eradicate the cancer gene in Flat Coats.
- By furriefriends Date 29.10.20 17:59 UTC
https://www.vettimes.co.uk/news/cancer-probe-into-flat-coated-retrievers-announced/ apologies for.the tangent but your.commemt reminded me of.the tumour survey that was being done by dr dobson some years ago now .just found this.  So still work in progress which at least is something.  Although not sure what has happened to the work of aht given their funding issues currently.  We had donated samples from .my previous fcr to the tumour survey  when we lost her .at least it felt some good may have come from .the loss
